New bed floor

So I'm just starting to think about what to do with my bed floor. My plan is to shorten from lwb to swb. The original wood was trashed so I tore it out 5 years ago, so now I need to figure out what to go back with. Wood look cool but I plan on hauling dirt bikes, tools, and whatever else comes along so that is out of the question. I would like to find a metal floor but can't seem to find them anywhere. So my next thought was build one out of some 1/8" or 3/16 plate steel and then rhino it. What do you guys think? anyone know where to get a bedfloor in northern ca? thanks!

Re: New bed floor

one idea would be to trade your wood bed minus the wood, for a steel bed
or you could get a bed floor from a different era truck and custom work it to fit your truck
otherwise if you really wanna do a truely custom floor that would have no issues strength wise, i would do a diamond plate floor, put extra suports made of 1/4 flat stock that were welded 1 foot or so apart going long ways on the bed then weld the dimond plate to those strips, then you could top it all off with rhino liner or herculiner
that would be how i would make a custombed floor

Re: New bed floor

I believe LMC still sells floors for SWB trucks. My 72 came from the factory with a steel floor.

I'd buy one from them and then herc line the inside. Looks clean and is functional as can be.

Have often thought about the D plate but that is not a cheap route.
