1986 C30 factory exhaust system question
I'm considering getting a C30 1986 SWR. Anyone know if this truck came factory catalyic converters? I've seen the truck only at night and cats were not on the dual exhaust system. If the dual exhaust was added later, it was done in a professional manner.
What year did the EPA require cats on one tons? thanks in advance.. Last edited by dan76; 06-15-2009 at 02:48 PM. |

Re: 1986 C30 factory exhaust system question
well if it helps, my 1986 c30 dually here in so-cal doesnt have cats and smogs legit every 2 years. the guy at the smog station said that the gross weight is the reason why it doesnt have cats.. we also have a 1977 dodge motorhome that is a heavy gross weight and doesn't require cats either.. so being that so-cal emissions are very strict i'd say i woulda heard something about it from them..i had both of these vehicles in phoenix az when we lived there and never got any crap from them. arizona is also a state run smog facility so the are double harsh also.. hope this helps but i would double check.. if the truck never had them then they can't require you to have them...

Re: 1986 C30 factory exhaust system question
Is it gas or diesel? Gas = Yes. Diesel = Depends on when in 1986 it was made.

my 86 k20 didnt come with cats, the smog police here told me it had something to do with the gross weight of the truck.

Re: 1986 C30 factory exhaust system question
gvw is probably the deciding factor on cats for 86. My diesel 86 k30 CUCV obviously doesn't have them, my 83 K30 drw didn't come with them, my 88 R30 drw did. The SRW/gvw may be the deciding factor.

ny 86 which was a 4.3 v6 did not come with cats either.. i remember someone said it had to do with the assembly plant as the exhaust book the exhaust/auto parts stores have shows both with and without cats
