3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
is there a difference between a 3/4 ton cab and a 1/2 ton cab, like the way they mount to the frame?

No differences in the cab itself. The frame mounts and rubber cab mounts are different though.

only thing is the 2 on the VIN instead of a 1.

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
A little off thread but:
My son and I found out the hard way that the cab mounts are different on a 3/4 ton than on a 1/2ton. We took a cab off a 3/4 ton and put it on a 1/2 ton frame using the 3/4 ton cab mount stuff. When we tried to align the front clip we found the gap at the fender to the cab would not work. One day when I was searching this forum I found out why. The frame brackets on 3/4 ton and 4X4s are lower on the frame allowing for thicker rubber mounts to allow for a smoother cab ride. Danny

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
this makes me wonder. I bought a cab and was "told" it was from a 1/2 ton. How do I really know?

If you have no VIN plate or any numbers to go on, then there is no way to tell and it really won't matter. The actual mounts on a 3/4 ton are different. The cabs are totally identical, the mounting locations are the same.

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
Good question, and good answers. I was wondering if I could just buy a set of cab mounts for a 1/2 ton for my 3/4 ton truck....since the 3/4 ton mounts cost twice as much. Now I know that I cannot do that and will have to buy the 3/4 ton ones

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
so baisically if you have a 3/4 ton cab, then you use the 3/4 cab mounts if you were to put it on a 1/2 ton frame?

I think you may have it backward.
Use the mounts that go with the frame.

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
You are overcomplicating this. El Jay has it right, you just use the mounts that are on the frame. The cab doesn't care if the chassis is 1/2 or 3/4 ton, it will sit there, bolt up, and look pretty either way. In a nutshell, don't mess with the mounts, just slap the cab on.

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
Neither the 3/4 or 1/2 would work on my truck so we had to come up with a custom setup. We ended up with a 2" body lift.

Re: 3/4 ton cab v.s 1/2 ton cab??
Slight tangent on the same thread:
My cab mounts are there, but severely cracked and dried out. I'll also add that I have a very BOUNCY 1-Ton. Will I actually notice a ride difference if I replace the mounts? Or will it just be money down the tubes? |

Yes, you will notice a ride difference. Replacing those dried out cushions with some new ones will provide a lot more give than the current ones do.
