dash conversion non ac to ac
I have a non ac cab that is in really good shape and a ac cab that is in horrible shape. Can I put the ac dash in the non ac cab?

Re: dash conversion non ac to ac
Funny you ask...
I'm gutting two cabs right now... one is a '72 AC cab, one is not ('67). I was going to swap the AC dash into the '67... but noticed it's welded all the way across the base of the windshield. I even buzzed the bolts out of each end of the dash, hoping it might pull apart, but no such luck. You would need to pull the windshield and drill out all the spot welds holding the dash to the cowl panel... It's not that complicated, but looks to be more trouble than it's worth. I've since decided to scrap my plans to put the '72 AC parts in the '67... and will just roll the windows down instead. |

It really isn't that hard if you have a welder. I am in the process of swaping dashes because my old dash was beat up pretty bad. You just have to pull the windshield out and drill out all the spot welds and remove the bolts under the dash on each side it and comes right out. Bolt the new dash in and weld up the lip under the windshield. I have seen people cut the holes in the dash for the a/c vents also, so that is another option you have.

Don't forget the firewalls are different as well for a air cab. Trevor

Re: dash conversion non ac to ac
Would it be easier just to go with a vintage air system than try to conver it over to stock look?

Re: dash conversion non ac to ac
How much different are they? I planned on putting an a/c dash in my 67 when I get around to restoring it. This might put a stop to that idea.

Also. How do you get a title for one of our trucks if you dont have one. My trucks cab doesnt have a vin number but it is in great shape. The PO said he got it out of a wrecking yard.

Re: dash conversion non ac to ac
I'm using an old air underdash unit in my non-A/C cab. I shaved the firewall, and then cut holes in the dash for the stock style of A/C outlets.
