My 78.....I hate rust. My first patch panel.
Well i have been ignoring the problem for quite sometime now but decided to fix it the other day. The heater box has been leaking on the firewall and getting inside the cab on the floor board since i have probably owned the truck. I pulled the Floor mat back and to no surprise found rust! UGGGGG! I started to grind away and found that it was more than surface rustWith the some help from my husband i began surgery on my truck I cut out the spot in the truck and formed a new piece of metal to replace it with. Then i tried my hand at welding. It doesn't look pretty but with the help of the grinder it made my welds look a whole lot better. Thank god it is under the floor mat I finished it by painting it up. Now on to the other side! Not bad for a girl. LOL

Glad to see you joined the board! The floor looks great, nothing a little carpet won't cover up if you don't like the rugged look. Haha.

Re: My 78.....I hate rust. My first patch panel.
Not bad at all, gender not with-standing. A whole lot of guys have done a lot worse.....or waited a lot longer before they did anything about it. (meaning that they never attempted it at all)

Re: My 78.....I hate rust. My first patch panel.
Thanks for all the Welcomes and all the encouriging comments! Here are some pictures of the truck. I think at some point i am going to get it repainted. I wil probably keep it the stock color. I have owned the truck since i was 15 (so for 11 years now). My dad bought all four of his girls more classic cars, but not me i wanted his 72 that he had. He wouldn't give it to me though so i ended up with the 78 which i love and will probably never be able to part with. It has many fun memories from the 11 years i have owned it. It needs to be gone through and cleaned up now . Luckily it is not in too bad of shape, my dad owns his own shop and when i was younger he always had us girls do our own maintnance to our vehicles. Which i thank him for now. As you can see it is not completly stock though. After a couple different tire and wheel changes and the 4" lift kit. Still got lots of stuff to do though. Like my husband say. "Your never done!"

Re: My 78.....I hate rust. My first patch panel.
Yo! Far out! And welcome to the truck forum. Wish I could get my wife to help on the truck and/or cars! She enjoys my accomplishments, but has NO mechanical inclinations.
Wish I could weld (still have that skill to learn),...wish I had a MIG so I could start learning! Someday soon. Nice '78! My '78 FRANKENTRUCK is also a constant project that I hope to finish someday. It came from a cow pasture, and took a full year to get back on the road. Have fun! Todd.
