Tailgate Protector??

Does anyone know where I can get a tailgate protector for my 70 Chevy CST-10? These are the stainless steel covers/caps that mount on the top of the tailgate. I see them for 73-87...88-98...galore but none for 67-72...Reason for wanting it...I have some scratches and dings I want to hide...Looking for the highly polished stainless steel cap. Thanks...

Re: Tailgate Protector??

I have two new ones that have been never been installed. I have had these for a long time. They seem to fit out trucks pretty good, but not 100% sure they are for 67-72. I can try to get a pic of one if your interested.

Re: Tailgate Protector??

I have the stainless tailgate cap and side rail caps from LMC on mine. They look great and protect the paint really well. I have a couple good sized nicks in one of them. Pissed me off... until I realized that the PAINT wasn't nicked! They're a good addition and they fit pretty well.

Re: Tailgate Protector??

Checked LMC...just about $70.00 with shipping...Oucha!! Now I remember...when I was collecting parts to put my CST-10 back together...I wound up orderering nothing from them because they were on the high side on everything!

chevy_mike....Thanks for the tip though...I had forgot about LMC...I guess I gotta pay if I want one...because they and Putco are about it!...Putco is up there too ~$70...

Thanks, Bob

Bob, try stainless steel accessory in Salt lake City, UT. (801) 484-5321‎. I had my rail pieces and front panel cap custom made there cheap The tailgate piece was about $25 at the time. Hope this helps!

Re: Tailgate Protector??

I called Stainless Steel Accessories yesterday...Their 67-72 tailgate protector (cap) is now $31.50 + $18 for shipping...So it looks like the best deal thus far. 20 gauge SS. I'm going to wait a bit before ordering...see if Joe has one first...Thanks to all

If you don't mind, could I ask you if the SS tailgate protector you offer will work on a Blazer as well? I was just wondering if there would be any problems with the rear hatch closing properly. Thanks.

Re: Tailgate Protector??

Thanks GMCPaul....I guess the shipping is so much because it's 4' long!...That's what I'm hearing anyways...but still that's the best price yet. 20 gauge SS too like the others I've heard about. I'll probably be ordering one.

Re: Tailgate Protector??

Are you sure your rear tires didn't explode, your rear axle didn't snap in half and your tailgate support mounts didn't shear off like they were made of tinfoil? Pretty gals!

Re: Tailgate Protector??

The later ones fit with a little coaxing. I have used the ones for 73 and up diamond plate ones by taking a 2x4 and rubber mallet to form the tailgate protector a little narrower so they fit fine. I have the full tailgate with caps that work well also.
