RUST - Is this cab too far gone?

Fellas:

I want to determine if the rust repair on my '69 is (1) possible, and (2) worth it. My cab has the standard problems (rockers, corners, foot wells), but the after market supports those repairs easy enough. What I'm seeking opinion on right now are the common, but challenging repairs to the cowl area, the windshield pillars, and the cowl vents -- are they possible to repair. As for are the repairs "worth it" to me that means that while it might be less expensive to replace the whole cab, the repair work isn't so expensive as to be ridiculous (I have some sentimental attachment to this truck).

If you have experience, or advice I'd take both. And if you know of a good body man in the Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC/Northern Virginia areas that is familiar with our vintage trucks, let me have that to. Here are some pics:

Depends on your welding skills. You will have to remove the windshield to address the one under the windshield. I will tell you though, if that is all the rust on that cab and I was closer I would come take it off your hands.

out here it would be scrap but if you have the skills to replace all the bad areas i'd like to see it after you finish. the cab on my 72 cheyenne is nowhere near that bad and i'm scrapping it.

That is all fixable, instead of removing windshield, cut access hole large enough to fix the issue through the solid area in the cowl, fx the problems with new metal and replace the section you cut out. The cowl cover will cover the cut but if you finish the welds properly no one will ever know your made the repair.

I would look for another cab but thats just me. I have minimal welding skills though. I would bet that you have some bad rust issues under that windshield too.

Mine was rusted like that but due to my own welding limitations and finances I got a different cab.

floors, rockers will need repair -- but strait forward, and supported by after market patches.

Looks like 80-100 hours of work. What does a drive to west texas/arizona take. 30 hours round trip? I would buy a good cab from someone in AZ or TX and drive to pick it up before I would attempt to repair that one. The rust you see is the tip of the iceberg.

Total driving and buying you would have less than $500 in a good cab and be far ahead of where you are now. My .02 Good luck!

Precisely. The rust that can be seen in those seams is not good or even safe.
You will either end up not repairing the rust not seen or.......you will be so deep into your repairs that there's no turning back and you'll be in a situation.
I suggest salvaging what you can from that cab and toss the rest of it.

One thing I have learned.... it is money well spent if you can locate rust free parts. But, if you have the skills need for these repairs and don't mind putting in the time, I say go for it.

If you go with a new cab, [I would) you can always cut that one into parts and sell it on the parts thread, and you will probably be able to come close to making your money back. There was an ad on there recently, and they did pretty well, and you get to help a bunch of other people out. For what it's worth.Good luck

i have a 68 cab non ac if any1 is interested it needs cab cornors rockers the basic stuff not as far as this one is

i say dive right in.i had to replace both rockers,pas and driver floor pans,both cab corners, built a full legnth patch for inside where roof meets the windshield,had to remove and weld the whole drip rail,had to fab 80% of the lip the windshield fits onto,patch both kick panels and patch the firewall.and im almost done.and i did it all outside.
