Hut Oh, Uno Problemo' What to do in front of the carpet?
Heres a picture of the problem
After installing the Dynamat along the backwall, floor, and firewall. I opened the box with the new carpet in there and set it in to see how it looked. ********Now, what to do with the area in front of the carpet where you can still see the Dynamat?********

Won't the heater box cover a good portion of that in the center?

I don't think that carpet is right - they should go a little further up. But I agree, the heater box will hide the middle there.

Yea, I think I'd spray the exposed dynamat with some flat black.

Re: Hut Oh, Uno Problemo' What to do in front of the carpet?
but won't that stuff flex even a little. Seems he would have paint flakes going everywhere. Passenger and driver's feet might scuff it easy too. You might be better to try and color and texture match some fabric or carpet or something to make it look sanitary. That is a quick eye catcher so if you don't do it right.....just that little area can ruin an otherwise nice interior. Is there anyway to leave less under the seat and scoot it up???

Ah ha!!! I know what it is or what will fix it. I had to go and look at mine and it stops at about the same place. It looks like you are missing or could get this black factory cardboard piece that covers that up all the way under they dash. Hopefully you can see mine from the pic. It's definately original and I'm sure you could get it aftermarket!

Re: Hut Oh, Uno Problemo' What to do in front of the carpet?
Buy some marine type carpet or the felt type they use to cover speaker boxes. It won't fray on the edges and doesn't have a backing like the carpet in the repro kits.
Trim it how you want it to fit, give a couple inches for it to underlap. Spray down some adhesive (I like 3M's Super 77) and lay down the carpet. Place new carpet over it.

The stuff you are looking for is called Ozite. not sure of the spelling, but if you got to one of your local upholstery shops they will know what you are looking for. It stretches nicely, so you can get it to lay smooth in the corners and flat in the flat areas. Only thing is I wouldn't use 3m spray glue. The heat from the firewall area alone could be enough to release the carpet. Get some HHR(high heat resistance) contact cement. Maybe the upholstery place will sell you some, if not the DAP weldwood in the red can is a good second choice. Follow the directions on the can, and don't push the carpet down hard until you are sure that's where you want it to be. Then you can lay your molded carpet over it. presto, new carpet all the way up the firewall!

I agree....but instead of putting it up front...I would put it under the seats and move up the gray carpet...just an idea..

The firewall insulation covers that area. There aren't any cutouts in the insulation for the heater but they have two areas marked that you can cut out for the heater mounting bracket. All you have to do is leave those places intact and it will be pretty smooth. LockDoc

Re: Hut Oh, Uno Problemo' What to do in front of the carpet?
Maybe the folks who sold you the carpet can sell you a piece of scrap big enough. If not, maybe they sell door inserts or mats. You could cut a mat to fit...
