pontiac 400
Hey guys, I searched the archives for info on installing a pontiac in my pickup but I haven't seen any pics of the swap. I was wondering if anyone has any pics on this. Judging by the archives it seems that it would be a popular swap if we only new how to do it. I have the engine and the bellhousing should I go with a 4 speed. If that turns out to be to much trouble I have a 400 aoutomatic to use as well. Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully I will get started on this project in the next couple of months.

My one ton had a pontiac 350 in it when I got it.
It was set up with '72 big block towers, and then the engine boltrd dang near straight in. They used some lug nits as spacers between the mounts and the towers. On your Th400, don't forget that a chevy tranny will not bolt up to a Pontiac engine. You'll need one with a BOP bellhousing. I can try to round up my pictures when I get home if needed. (I'm at a friends house right now) |

I put a 455 in a 69 I had once. You can pretty much put anything you want if you have the skills to do it. We just got a 68 Chevy pickup that some JA put in some ford motor. The hood is not even on the truck because the motor sits so darn high. Truck doesnt even run. Next time Im down at the shop I will try to get a picture of it.

Here is the belhousing bolt pattern for a BOP;
![]() Here is the Pontiac 350 sittin in there nice and low. Plenty of room in there for it. ![]() Hereis a shot of the motor mounts. ![]() And here the mounts are without the engine. If memory serves, there was a lig nut as a spacer on the passenger mount...but it has been a while though. ![]() |
