How did you pick your theme, did you see another truck that gave you ideals or you thought it up yourself? tell the truth, heres the truck that inspired me ;D

I like and use my trucks as trucks so no need for a theme. I just keep them stock.

Ya' know what's wierd, That orange truck was the reason I started working on my truck too.

I work with the "Less is more" approach. If you keep things simple it will make things easier later on, and it won't go out of style.

Man I love your truck. I think the older I get the more I like the classic look. If this was 10 years ago I would of shaved everything in site.

Yo! FRANKENTRUCK evolved because of the available parts,...but no theme. A '73 donor flatbed with the NP205, a VERY heavy duty (5560lb rated) full-floating rear axle, and a Dana 44 front with Warn locking hubs. The FRANKENTRUCK was supposed to be a cab for the flatbed, but is in FAR better shape, so it became the build! It came from four years in a cow pasture near the border with Wyoming (20+ miles north of my place). It contributed the TH400:

All else new and rebuilt, including a 325hp 350 I built, and a machined, twin-stick NP205. Bodywork and paint is left to do (obviously!).
Lots of parts from different sources,...my wife dubbed it "FRANKENTRUCK".
Origonal color?
Medium green metallic. I'll duplicate it.
Theme: responsive, good gas mileage, heavy duty,...FRANKENTRUCK.
A success!

I built my 77 like it is because it was too nice to cut up. I had planned the same theme with my 82 Blazer but things got out of hand. Too bad I had to sell it.

Ironically the orange truck posted was built like it is because of my 77 Cheyenne. Cory saw it at TX Heatwave and decided he had to have one like it.

He did a sweet job on it...

Well I am building my 84 in more of a clean classic hotrod style. No real insperation but It will never be lowered or on low pro tires. I do like the look and all but really enjoy the ride of stock trucks. My 77 is another story. I am building that with the theame of a 1970's offroad truck. you know 33's and a 4 inch lift. I offroad this truck and honestly it puts more of a smile on my face hearing pine trees leaving "pin striping" then waxing my 84 ever does!

I remember when I bought mine, the first purpose for mine was to pull my pop up camper. Lots of guys asked me why are you building a 3/4 ton, I would just tell them that I like the looks of the more heavy duty trucks. I like the classic style with my own little twist (the newer molding and wheels).

mine was a rock stock clean as a pin that got 13.5 MPG and wouldn't pull your hat off your head. Found a suburban with the right side wiped out but the 454 and drivetrain was perfect and relativly new. Figured if 13.5 was it, might as well slap curbs so...

Build your truck like you like it. Take ideas by bits and pieces of others, throw in some ideas of your own, then it will be YOUR truck, the way you want it. This hobby of car/truck building wouldn't be any fun, if we all drove VW Beetles.

When I was working on older cars, mostly convertibles. I'd buy a model and try different looks and paint until I had what I liked, then set it on a shelf in the shop. Kept me inspired to keep working when I'd get stumped or short on money.

Good luck, and if you like it, that's what's important. It's your truck.

Ken your truck is an inspiration for A LOT of people. The good thing about cars and trucks is that inspiration can come from anywhere. Some, like have been stated already, take inspiration from what it was originally. Some take it from what their parents, or grand parents did. Some try to do the opposite of whatever is popular right now. That's what makes this addiction so great. Eveyone has different tastes, and everyone in some way appreciates the outcome. It may not be the way some people would have done it, but they appreciate the effort, or some little thing on it may spark inspiration for some idea of your own. That is why I love to look at all the threads on here to see what people are doing and have done. What works, and what doesn't. Inspiration is everywhere on here in some way or another.

When i Got It-

my insparation for my truck is my dads old truck. for my hole life he has been telling me how much he loved that truck. he always says he had so much fun driving it and it was the best truck he ever had. so i decided to rebuild one with him.

sorry i dont have any pics of it. he had to sell it cuse he got kids lol.

i have always wanted a lowered two tone swb.i had to keep with the two tone look.so,in order to get a stock two tone to look right.you need to keep trim and other area's stock in appearence.you can get a little wild with paint color's and lowering,wheel size if you like.there really wasn't a whole lot of two tones like mine to go by.and the fact it isn't my daily driver or work truck has allowed me to do a few things different.
