Holley Quadrajet Question

I bought a new Holley 650 Quadrajet replacement carb a while back and just put it on an engine I built - the carb was new in the box - no fuel ever run through it . . . after about 30 minutes of driving, the float sank and flooded out the engine. After opening it up I find the float has leaked & is saturated.

Any of you Holley guys ever have this happen? Just curious - Thanks! Lee

I take it that it is a quadrajet and not a 4175 spreadbore. If so... Hey, its a quadrajet. What do you want?

Seriously. Its just a rebuilt quadrajet. They probably didnt even change the float which why it was traded in as a core in the first place. The only way you really know if you get a good quad is if you buy a new one. Otherwise it could be cobbled together out of whatever they have that looks OK and new gaskets. Most rebuilders dont even rebush the throttle shaft bores unless theyr'e way beyond toast.

I'll have to get the number off the carb - I didn't keep the box - It's a NEW Holley 650 that is sold as a direct replacement for the Rochester Quadrajet . . . right down to the fuel hook ups. You just bolt it on & hook up the vaccuum & fuel lines & GO

its a holley spread bore replacement carb, all new. I've heard of floats leakin on holleys before never had a problem myself. I'd go get some new copper floats

I also have the q-jet replacment holly, but mine in on my 454 and it is too rich and I don't have lower jets and have been too lazy to look for stuff..

The holley quadrajet replacements I have seen and handled were actually rebuilds. As far as I know the only NEW quads come from edelbrock or GM .

The 4175 is a good carb and yes they are new holley carbs and do not even resemble quadrajets. I think he's talking about a holley contracted rebuilt quadrajet. I just say that cause he said he had The float drop as in the one float in a quad. You can buy holley rebuilt quadrajets that come in holley boxes. Thats where the confusion is here it seems.
