trim codes identification

here are some of the stuff on my option sheet. I was wondering if someone can expand/explain what this means more?

G80: Locking Diff. I know what that is just wanting more info on it.
B3W: Advanced Price Sheet
ZQ2: Operator Convenience Package
F44: Heavy Duty Chassis
74D Lrri Carmne Spec Cu
YE5 Demonstrator Identif

Thanks! Matt

Re: trim codes identification

G80 is the Gov-loc, AKA Gov-bomb. Will only lock at speeds of about 25mph or less, but will stay locked at speeds greater than that, until both wheels gain traction. It is failure prone.

F44 I believe is the Heavy Half option?

Re: trim codes identification

well that's pretty exciting about the g80. looks like I'll be taking an easy with this truck! I know that my truck is a "Trailering special".so that might have something to do with the f44.

Re: trim codes identification

Don't worry too much about taking it easy, as it doesn't seem to matter. They (G80) usually fail in one of two ways- just plain quit working, or they grenade.

Re: trim codes identification

Only ZQ2 and F44 were listed, which stated about the same thing. I was starting to think that that listing was only for vehicles built within the last 20 years or so. Then I noticed "YE7- Special Performance Package, '71-'72 GMC Sprint", so I guess that's not the case, lol.

Sorry for the delay; I kept forgetting to check my literature (which I keep in my office at work).

Unfortunately, both the written stuff and electronic records that I have don't give any more description than what you have written here. I'd only be guessing if I tried to answer now but I can ask around a bit.

if you open your glove box there should be a option sheet there with all the codes and a short line about what it is called.

Re: trim codes identification

I came across something else. ZQ2 is simply an option that covers both the power windows AND locks. So basically it's a package that only includes two options.

Re: trim codes identification

G80 is not specific to Gov-Bomb posi carriers. It is a generic option code that has been used by GM for decades to designate a limited slip differential. My 68 Camaro has this option code with its clutch type Eaton built posi carrier in the 12-bolt.

It depends upon which vehicle you have and what year range as to what you have.

An easy way to tell if it is a Gov-Bomb without pulling the cover is to jack up the rear end and then rotate one tire. The other tire will not rotate in the same direction if it is an open carrier or a Gov-Bomb.

If the other tire rotates in the same direction as the one you are turning then you have a clutch type posi carrier.

GM didn't put the Gov-Bomb in cars so if you have one then a Camaro or Firebird from 72 to 81 can be a good donor for a clutch type posi to retrofit if you have the 8-1/2" 10-bolt rear end.

Re: trim codes identification

well as I stand. I think the more info there is about the trucks the better. BUT I don't want to put you out too. it is more of a curiosity then anything else. if it is a hassle to call to you or him, or you don't want to. I completely understand. and I appreciate what you have done so far! Thank you! Matt
