Truck Tool Boxes
I'm considering putting a tool box in my truck, mainly because there's no freakin' storage space and good luck to me trying to find a shell for a LONGHORN!
So let's see some pic's of tool boxes and how you mounted them to incur the least amount of damage. If you can include what brand the box is, that would be great, too. Thanks! Greg |

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
Yeah, I saw a combo 50 gal tank w/attached tool box... It was a lot of cash, but it would be SWEET to hold 68 gallons of fuel without losing my spare tire mount!!

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
No, Mine is a 1 ton 2WD Longhorn. I just have big a** tires on it.
Also, I don't want a box that rests on the bed rails. I want one that is more or less like a foot locker and just sits in the bed. There's a fairly nice diamond plate box at Lowe's over here for about $230. I just always seem to find better things to spend the money on... Beer, food, gas, more beer... |

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
There's a '69 down the street from me that has a diamond plate tool box that sits in the bed. Looks pretty good. Try Northern tools online. 69GMCLonghorn are you going to Brother's?

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
I'm considering it, but not sure. I got roped in to working about 1000 hours of overtime this week... and weekend! Any part of my life not involving work is currently on hold... I will DEFINITELY be at the Glendale Cruise Night on July 18. The last few years have been maxed out at around 500 cars/trucks. Great show, lots of fun, bad 50's/60's music... My truck will be in the show somewhere. I'll be parked with a '63 Lincoln convertible and a '70 MGB (don't ask).

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
Here's a couple of shots of mine. It's a Husky that I got for $100 from work, so it was a good deal! It's just held in place with four J-bolts. I love it! I keep all my tools and extra stuff in there. As far as protecting the bed goes, I can't answer that right now. My bed is Swiss cheese and will be heading for scrappy town as soon as I get the money for a replacement bed. I'm sure I won't worry about protecting the bed until after I have the truck painted, and that's a long way off.

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
I'm not sure if they have tractor supply down there or not but that's were I got my last box (for my ranger I used to have). They usually have good deals on boxes. They are prettry good quality, I think they are a little heavier guage than lowe's or home depot. I'm with you on the chest style boxes, I like to keep them below the bedline. Eventually I'll be getting one for my 68 GMC, but that's a ways off.

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
I can second the vote for Tractor Supply, they have the best variety of different types of boxes at a variety of prices of any place I checked. I looked around for a long time because I didn't want to spend much adn got a diamondplate over the rails toolbox there, I use my truck as a daily driver working as a carpenter so I needed the space. The selection at Lowes and Home Depot is much more limited than the one at the Tractor Supply I went to so I'd check them out. If you aren't concerned with looks as much get a painted Greenlee job box, they have some small ones that are shorter than the height of the rails, they are big enough to put a chop saw, floor jack, etc.. in

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
Anyone wanting a toolbox that will need to lock and keep anything safe, do yourself a favor and don't get a cheapo tool-box. I can get in any alluminum box in a minute, with no tools, even if it's locked. I just had a new box given to me and a buddy said "Hey, watch this." and yanked the lid right off by hand. I have it pad locked now. I'll be going back to RK boxes soon. Search craigslist.

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
I have one that sits on the top rail of the bed. I like these better because they still allow full bed floor and don't trap debris and moisture like one sitting on the floor. Mine's from TSC and is held in place by J bolts,no holes drilled. You can put the cap tape (spongy) on the box to protect the paint. I even carry ladder racks that I use that tape on and c-clamps,with no damage to the bed.

Re: Truck Tool Boxes
I though of going with somthing like this http://www.orsracksdirect.com/tracra...mount-kit.html
So i can get a box that sets below the bedsides and i can put tri fold cover on the truck,so if i need i can keep it at the front of the bed like in summertime or whenever. But in the winter keep it over the axle or at the back of the bed for weight and also i can get in it better form the tailgate.I am going to say 95% of the time its probley going to be at the back of the bed by the tailgate

Keep an eye on craigslist. There's always a bunch on there for sale.

I have one on my truck.
Not the greatest pic. I like it because the age matches the truck. ![]() |
