removing headlight knob - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am sure there is a special tool for this that I will need to pick up but I have removed two now and both were destroyed to take them off the truck.

what are the tricks? do some just from being that old just NOT come off?

no tool you have to reach up to the switch housing and press the release button while pulling it out.I learned the hard way

just reach up in behind the dash, there is a small spring loaded button on top of the switch, push it in and pull out the headlight switch.

That's exactly right... Just know that sometimes it will still put up a fight (at least mine does. You just have to get the right combination of pressing and pulling and it will eventually slide out.

Thanks for posting a pic as my gauge bezel is coming tomorrow and I'm sure I would have broke it not knowing about the button. lol

HA. I just pulled and twisted the S.O.B. till it came off. The very next day, I learned how to do it right. Oh well. It needed a new one anyways.
