belt and pulley issues
ok so i did my engine swap and put my headers on i have a bracket kit for the alternator but i still cannt get it to line up is there a bracket kit that bolts to the head on eather side of the engine the alternator and water pump are the only things being ran off the engine none of the pulleys line up is there a difference between a 74 350 and a 63-65 283 for the balancer i think its the issue there i used my old water pump alternator and all pulleys but none of them line upis it safe to make spacers for the harmonic balancer pulleys or should i line up with a different pulley and make a spacer for the water pump pulley there is still around 4 inchs between the radiator

Re: belt and pulley issues
Hey Big Chevy, its nice to meet you. I have been doing the same thing for over a month now. 283 to 350. I have learnd alot. The harmonic balancer are not the same on the two. I was told to stay with the 350 so i did. The pump i choose to use was the short pump from the 283 so i had to use all the pullys from it as well. I used one washer behind my balancer as well to line things up. There are quite a few things that dont work or that i have had to change. The biggest is that the 350 used different mounts so i had to set my motor 3 inchs closer to the front.
You also can not sell or even offer to sell any parts untill you have become a site supportor. It was the best 25 bucks i have ever spent!!! Vance |

Re: belt and pulley issues
ya im trying to reuse as many parts as possable cus most of them are new i reused the water pump, starter, flywheel, valve covers, intake, carb, alternator, id like to keep the pulleys but im having a issue there i found a spacer kit for the balancer pulleys so ill probly get that but the 283 had the stock exhaust manifolds but when i put the 350 in i put headers on it and my main issue is finding a alternator bracket that will work drivers or pass. side the heads are drilled for it so if any1 has part # for a bracket that might work that would be great

Re: belt and pulley issues
Another choice for you would be to check JEGS or SUMMMIT's web sites for a MARCH ALT system brackets compatable for something with headers. Not cheap, but beats fighting proper alignment issues. Plus the added bonus of clean trouble free installation.
