Post Drove the '72 today first time in 2 years

man did it feel good to drive my baby again. I tried to start it last night to move it to my storage shed while we try to sell the house, but the carb just kept dumping gas. I went out today and bought me a 1406 and put in and she fired right up. she has a little backfire in her. could that be from old gas? It also has kind of a knock in it when she is idleing. when i push in the clutch it goes away. maybe throwout bearing? thanks for your help.

it'll clear out when you drive it a little.
clutch plate probably has surface rust and popping could be bad gas .
I would change thermostat for sure and check on condition of front brake hoses before I drove it long. check belts also.
Put some marvel mystery in gas and will help alot.
