Hey guys,

I talked to a guy who has a vintage air unit that he installed, but now removed....it's for a 67-72 truck w/o air....he wants about 1/2 of what it cost new??....Obviously it sounds very tempting, but before I commit....what should I look for or ask him about the system??.....

I'd want to know if it works and why he took it out, and if you're not interested, than I am!

Check vintage airs site, print off the instructions for the kit he says he has (67-72 truck w/o air, but does it work with an a/c controller or the stock heater controller?), and double check the parts list with what he has. Missing or broken pieces can add up quick.

How long has it been off the truck? I've heard it's "bad" for the condensor and dryers to be empty for a long period of time after having stuff in them. Old wife's tale or urban legend? I don't know.

I agree to ask how long it's been off, if it had any issues, and which kit? Is it the sure-fit kit that uses the basic controls from a non-air truck I'm assuming? Get the list of parts that he's including (evaporator, condensor, compressor, hoses, vents, etc...)

Yes! what everyone else has said. I would suggest replacing the receiver drier as part of the install. If this system has been open for any length of time the desicent bag will be full of moisture, and could rupture when you charge the system, and ruin a whole bunch of stuff.

His Response:
I have no clue how old it is. System was on a friend of mines truck that he was building....He lost interest, and started parting the truck out, I purchased this from him for my 69......but have since decided to sale my truck, it was a complete kit and new when he got it....He had it on the truck, but I don’t believe he ever actually charged it and had it going he never got that far....The only thing missing is the firewall plate, but you can get that from Vintage

I'll probably stop by and try to takea looky tonight....

Good advice!! I'd consider flushing the system too before recharging the system as well. Any NAPA or similar has the flush chemicals, etc.

Sounds like a winner right there. I'd go on the website and print out a list of what you should be getting and take that with you.

Also, consider infanti's plates to smooth the firewall as an option if you could get it painted for not too much. I know it would be more work and money, but man, that would be a slick look!!!

he sent me a pic of the install book....it has the part # as 75067-LCZ-A....so what does he have there??

Looks like just the evaporator kit...not the complete kit...or am I missing something??

looks like the whole kit to me. The big plate that is missing is easy to fabricate. I would think that it would look better that the one that came with the kit. I just pulled all of the factory A/C stuff from my Blazer, and will TRY and remember to take a picture of the plate I made last Saturday. I am not a great Fab guy, but I think it looks ok.

its a gamble and with no warranty if something goes wrong your going to have to spend some dough. When I got mine (new) it had rubber plugs on all the connections. if those are still there and it wasn't put all together it may be ok.

Also, if ANY of those little green O ring gaskets were used, DO NOT reuse them!!! Buy new ones. A leak isn't worth a couple bucks worth of new gaskets.
