i just replaced mine like 6 months ago and not its gone bad again....what would cause this i have a sbc 400

It's extremely rare for a mechanical pump to die that fast. If you've got a high mileage motor, the eccentric on the cam may have worn flat. If that's the case, you'll need a new cam or run an electric fuel pump.

There's no telling unless you take it apart, poke. You can check the pump rod for wear, there may be a lot of trash in the tank and clogged up the pump.

not to turn this thread political but if this is bought at a chain autoparts store that imports alot of junk from china, it could fail easily . I have bought these discount parts before and had three parts bad out of the box.
fuel pumps do not require a core as far as i know. take a dremel and cut the top off once you have it out of the truck and see whats going on perhaps there was a problem with the internals?
Id buy one with a lifetime warranty for $40 as opposed to the $20 one that has the one year replacement on it..

I'd advise checking the faulty pump for the failure cause. If by chance the cam eccentric is gone, then other lobes are soon to follow.

going electric os not cheap and easy dude..
you need a pump designed for pick up..
or a prepump / main pump set up..
unless you go with an intank pump itself..

fuel pumps are nto designed to "pull" (well most arent)
they are designed to push.. while submerged..

dont go cheap on yer parts dude.. even if yer bored...and broke..

how do i check to see if the cam is gone cuz i just highly doubt it is the fuel pump and i know nuthens clogged cuz i can blow air through the fuel pump

you need to go with THE SIMPLEST SOLUTION first... ALWAYS..
cheap pump.. possibly out.. could be the solution...
seeing how there is a ton of ghetto ass PO "solutions" instead of real repirs.. i would start checking everythign before you touch.. even think about..touching or blaming the motor..

the VERY first thing i would do is test the fuel pump at the lines closest to it to see if it's even pumping fuel.. at all..
check your fuel filter for garbage...
pull and check the pump see if it is still intact and functiong.. period..
when check the lines between your tank and the pump.. they can be ****ty.. and case the fuel pump to "work hard" leading to failure.
Especially if you are cheap and putting crap onto your truck...

my truck is ugly.. loud and well dosent always run right.. but it ALWAYS gets quality parts...
and as i put quality parts/ troubleshooting and repairs into it..
all the ****ty chinese crap breaks and falls off/ fails etc..
so it all gets replaced with quality stuff..
period.....

love u man.. but ya gotta start checking all options here... on everything you do... freaking out and fancy parts dont fix your problem..

well i did pull the line to the tank closest to the pump and tried to suck up gas and nuthen...do i need to pull the line too the carb also?

remember the most simple solution is almost always the right answer..
do allthe lines and check them out..
might just have a clog on the pickup side dude..

have you checkek your float ever?
ever seen teh strainer or anything that is in your tank?..

well i pulled the line right next to the pump put it into a container of gas and it wouldnt even suck that up

well then remove the pump
and rotate the motor over a few times to see if the rod is actuating the pump itself..
if the rod is moving th epump is ****..

then you have to find out why the pump is ****ting on you
(cheap parts>?)

alright man this looks like the plan lol and i guess we will find out if its parts soon enough it may take me a little while cuz taking cair of a 1 year old and working on a truck at the same time is very difficult lol

i HATE installing fuel pumps so so bad..its a pain in the ass...i tried installing a old one i had sitting around but it didnt work eather so i gotta go to the store tomorrow and get another one

??rotate the motor untill the rod goes all the way up and shove the pump in and bolt it on

one of the easiest things to change out.

even if the motor is roted the rod always slides back down i gotta hold it up with a screw driver and then try to position the pump in

Put a big blob of grease on the rod in the hole and that will hold it in the hole long enough to get the pump bolted on.
