Need some advice..
Hey everyone!
I've been lurking around the boards for a while now and thought I'd finally make a post. Recently I've asked my uncle if I could have the old 62 GMC sitting on the farm, of course he said yes. I've taken a look at it and basically the only things that are good on it are the hood, the cowl panels and the passenger door. I may be able to salvage some grill pieces as well. I want to keep the cab as it's a big window cab, it just needs floors and corners. My question is would this cab be compatible with any 60-66 Chev/GMC trucks(ie same lines as the fenders and bed)? I want to use as many parts from this truck as possible as it was my grandpa's and I've got alot of memories from when I was younger. Here's the truck: |

Re: Need some advice..
Nice truck !!! Get it out of there before it sinks anymore !!
All the parts are pretty much inter-changeable...however the 60-63's share the same style cabs.... As far as fenders and such, your good to go. It is so cool your bringing your uncles truck back to life...especially with all the memories !!! How long has it been sitting ?? BTW, Welcome aboard !!!

Re: Need some advice..
Well it last ran 4 years ago and was last registered in 97'. We've pulled it out since these pics. It turns over but won't quite start..
I'm going to start tearing her down, but after my Camaro is nicely tuned up(runs like crap) and a few other issues are resolved with it. I hope to start doing some minor body work on the truck starting mid-September or so. Thanks for the advice! |

Re: Need some advice..
Alright, thank you for the replies! I had taken a look at http://www.6066gmcguy.org/. It was quite helpful. But now I have a new set of questions. On the fenders of my truck, there are some emblems that say GMC910. Just wondering what makes this so different from a 1000 series.
I've also found 2 parts trucks for $300: http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ146678079 I'm wondering what I should do as I'm wanting to use my truck for towing a trailer. The orange 64 GMC looks to be a 3/4 ton with a decent box. Would my half ton be good enough for towing? Sorry, I'm still a bit of a newb with these types of things.. I've also finished a cowl piece: Last edited by CanadianGMC; 08-12-2009 at 01:52 PM. |

Re: Need some advice..
in the ser.# the number 9 denotes Canadian model. there is a different eng lineup between Can & US models
towing- depends on how much weight that you are going to pull; each fas different ratings ron |

Re: Need some advice..
can you get a close up pic of the fender emblem? I don't think I've ever seen one like that.
Good luck on the truck. |

Here's a pic of the fender:
As for towing, I'm not looking to tow anything in excess of about 4700lbs |

Re: Need some advice..
I would look at upgrading a few things first and brakes would be among the first

Re: Need some advice..
All Canadian built GMC's came with Chevrolet Drivetrains. Our GMC's all start with 9 before the series designation. My GMC is a 960 that is the same as a 6000 series except that it has a Chevrolet motor.

Re: Need some advice..
As for the parts trucks . One is a 62 Chevrolet with bright package mouldings. The other is a GMC with a deluxe dash and radio and antenna. Need close up pictures. Two parts trucks for $300.00 there worth picking up if you have the room.

Re: Need some advice..
Yea I was thinking about the two trucks. I'm sure my uncle wouldn't mind another 2..He's already got 4 53's and a 62 on the farm, why not add a few more I plan on seeing them hopefully this friday, if they are not sold as of yet. I'm sure I could sell a few parts off of them and make my money back..
Also thanks for letting me know about the 9 before the designation. |

Re: Need some advice..
Fer shure save the mirrors and the hubcaps. I have been looking for some hubcaps for my 63 that aren't made out of unobtainum (i.e. velly expensive) for years. I have seldom seen mirrors the likes of your 'round heah. Nice project.
