Re: Rattle can interior!

I used Krylon semi gloss black on my Camaro interior and it was pretty good. I think if you use a good quality spray paint and spray on thin coats so it does not wrinkle, you can get decent results. However, it will never look as good as from a spray gun with automotive paint.

Re: Rattle can interior!

You can get a great finish from a rattle can. First it all comes on how you prep it and how you lay down the layers of paint. For many years I used several different brands of rattle can paint to paint Remote control gliders. A couple of things you can do to get a good finish are:
1. Completely clean the surface down with a good prep cleaner before you do anything. 2. Sand old paint and make repairs as needed. 3. When it comes to putting on the paint do everything you can to keep dust levels down. 4. When its time to shoot the paint from the rattle can -- put the can in hot tap water for about 5 minutes to raise the paint temp in the can. 5. Shake it like it says on the can , then shake it some more. 6. Do a test spray to make sure your fan pattern is the way you want it and to see how it comes out of the can. 7. After you have built up several coats . let it dry really good. 8. Hit the newly painted sureface with a high number wet-n-dry paper 9. Clean it off again with a little prep cleaner. 10. Buff it with a 3m buffing glaze to bring the shine out and level out the paint. 11. Either wax it or shoot a couple of thin layers of clear on it-- make sure if you use a clear use whatever brand paint you shoot on it , use the brand for the clear. Some of the brands I had success with were Krylon and Duplicor made for automotive touch ups. I also from time to time went to the local automotive supply house and had a custom color mixed up and put in a rattle can.

Re: Rattle can interior!

I've also used Duplicor touch up paint from the can and it works well. You have to use their clear coat, too. I also bought some touch up paint in a can off Ebay, that was the Omni Pak thing where an auto paint shop mixes up paint and sticks in it a rattle can. Worked well.

Re: Rattle can interior!

You can spray good paint with a rattle can.The larger the area, the harder. The only difference is a small spray pattern.it takes an effort to spray even and not go thick and thin, along with over spray. The idea is to keep as large of an area wet until you move away from it.You won`t have direct sun deteriorating it.

Mines bombed as well. Don't have time to post pics, but there are some in my build thread towards the end. Just make sure you take your time and prep it up good.

Re: Rattle can interior!

I cleaned mine with a "SOS" pad.Steel wool with soap in it.I then rinsed it 3 times and let it dry. Then some paint thinner and a good masking.I like "Krylon" because it dries fast enough to keep the dust and such down.It has been 5-6 years and still looks good.It wont win any interior awards but I drive it a lot and ain't ashamed.Of course I'm not easily shamed.

Re: Rattle can interior!

Found the same color code in Pep Boys and did the dash. It's not as smooth but passes (at least for a daily driver)... have a new chrome glove box door too.

Re: Rattle can interior!

Rattle canned my interior - working on sealing the cab drip rail now and will be sanding and giving the exterior cab the same treatment. Depending on how that turns out I may continue or just let a professional paint the rest...

From this...
