What year frames ??

to convert a '67 to 4x4, has anyone used other than '67-'72 frames ?? Would a '73-'80 work ??? How about a Suburban frame either '67-'72 or '73-'80 ???

I understand that a good fabricator can do anything, but I'll let you know if I ever become one... hahaha!!!

Re: What year frames ??

The 73 up frames are wider and you would have to redo the body mounts and make brackets to bolt the box back on the frame. I had a 69 that had a 78 frame on it and the guys had it farmer rigged to say the least. They took 4x4 rear cab mounts and angled them in at the top and ran the bolts in. It looked horrible but worked. The guy I sold the truck too still has it that way so it must work, just not the way I would want one.

Re: What year frames ??

Best thing to do is just look, look, and look some more for a 4x4 frame. I kept an eagle eye on CL and happened to be the first caller and proud owner of a swb 4x4 rolling chassis for 350 bucks. They are out there.

Re: What year frames ??

if you are not into a bit of fabrication, then x2 for gene's post. it is possible to put those frames under these bodies, a lot of people have. and i converted my 2wd 69 GMC to 4x4 by making spring perches, crossmembers, and mounts, but that's a lot of fab work. best bet is find a 4x4 frame. good luck

Re: What year frames ??

Thanks for all the replies... I have a '67 frame located for about a $1000 (whole truck). I'd like a '71 or '72 with disc brakes in front...
