Simple question:

I live in Oregon.....truck is no problem with DEQ because there is no restrictions. It is a 69 with headers and modified engine.
If I was to move to Calif., Siskiyou county, what would be expected to get the 69 registered???

CA has left the older vehicles alone. You should have no problems registering.

rumor mill up here says anything newer than 65 has to have all stock everything. I am still checking.

I bought my Blazer from out of state and registered it in Ca. The only thing they require is an inspection from a law enforcement officer to verify the numbers. I had a police officer come to my house for a home alarm signal they received (monitered home alarm). On his way out, I asked for a favor if he had time to look at my DMV form and if he could verify that all of the numbers matched. He looked at the Blazer really quick, signed my paper and away I was to the DMV. The DMV did not blink an eye and I was home free with my title.

The registration on my '69 C-10 was $91 just this past April.

To the best of my knowledge, you shouldn't have any problems registering your truck.

But, I think there may be a surcharge at DMV if you wander in with a chicken perched on your shoulder.

Eljay's registration is cheaper because he gets the senior citizen discount,

us younger guys with the C-20s pay more. I just got my registration renewal and I owe $222 ! I hope they dont make you pay that much for yours. You shouldnt have any problems other than long lines at the DMV

Speaking of truck weight.... there is a price break every 1,000# (and it's an ongoing annual charge), so if you are anywhere near, say, 4000#, strip off as much as you can (and have a near-empty fuel tank) to get it under 4000#. You'll save money every year at renewal time.

I registered mine with a camper on it and they gave me regular plates (not commercial),no weight fees and even with the State jacking up rates,I just got my notice for '09 for $67.
So borrow a camper and save big over time.

X2!!!! even if you have to buy a cheap crappy camper and junk it, it is money well spent. WorkingLonghorns tags were $67 after the rates got raised mine were $146 before the increase for the same truck. Avoid those commercial plates like the plague if you can.

You will have to get it weighed. (SandKing did not need a weight certificate because a Blazer is not considered a commercial vehicle)
Any vehicle 1975 and older is emissions exempt.
You will need to show proof of insurance.
The VIN numbers will need to be verified by either a CHP officer, or a DMV worker.

I recommend making an appointment at your local DMV for the VIN inspection/registration at the same time (they will probably require you to make "2" appointments), since the CHP office (local one here anyways) is usually 2 months out on their appointments for doing VIN inspections. Don't stop an officer in the field and ask him to verify your VIN; ask me how I know. Take your Oregon title, a weight certificate (you can obtain this from a mill for about $8), your proof of insurance, and some cash or a check. That's it. I do this all the time.

if you put non comercial plats on DO NOT get cot with anything in the bed,not even your spare . my dad did this and got cot hauling trash to the dump . he had to pay for the commercial plate plus fine and this was years ago .they would really hang it to you nowadays.

I always wondered about that but I've had no problem and I use it ONLY for hauling loads and lots of tools and supplies. Guess I've been lucky(?).

I just payed for mine c10 and it was $151.
I am also trying to register a car that wasn't register since 1978. Major PITA. Per DMV I need to get VIN verification at CHP and mail a certified letter to a PO. All this BS and I have a title for the car. I just payed an outside agency $125 to do it all. I'll probablly end up paying $100 more. On the plus side I don't need to deal with a retards at CHP and DMV. They did a VIN check in my garage. I can't afford to take at least 3 days from work to do this myself. Goodluck.

Wow everyone seems to be paying alot I owe $95.00 to regester my 72 shortbed it was $75.00 before the price hickes, I guess I shoulda paid it before. I was told if you had a camper it isn't considerd comercial at lease thats what my brother told me and he works for the DMV here in Ca something about an easy way to tell is if the plates have a number plus 3letters in the begening it is not comercial. For example A tuck I just got a 92chevy sivarado 4x4 Longbed with a camper is not registerd as comercial "Ca parcial plate#3PLG" but he did say if I were to take the camper off and got cited by an officer who knew the law I could get kinda fined, Thats kinda crazy.....
