Electrical Question for updated 91 front end

Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me. I have put in a 91 front clip on my 86 and am having some issues with the wiring. First off, should all 4 of the lights be on in the high beam mode or just 2 lights, if 2, are they the outside ones or inside?
Secondly, can I use my 86 wiring harness? It also has dual headlights but they have different connections than the newer quad lights. Is it possible to just rewire the new connectors on my old wires for the headlights? If this is possible, I am not sure what the green wire is for. It appears that the peach colored wire is power and the black is ground, but what do I do with the green wire. The newer lights have only 2 terminals, not 3 like the '86 lights.
Thanks for any help out there and I apologize if this information is elsewhere in the forum. I can't seem to navigate or search on the forum????

Thumbs up Re: Electrical Question for updated 91 front end

Nukes--- Ive got a 91 clip on my 84, and with the low beams on, the outside lamps burn. With the brights, all four lamps are on. Not sure if its correct, thats just how mine works. My truck is at a buddy of mines shop but ill be there tomorrow working on it. Ill look at the connections on the headlights and get back to ya. The 91 clip was on the truck when I bought it so I havent paid much attention to the wiring but all the lights work.

Re: Electrical Question for updated 91 front end

Hey, thanks so much, I'm not sure what is going on here with my lights. I have talked to everyone around here and nobody seems to know anything. One guy said that the green wire should be the ground...if that is the case then I'm worse off than I thought.
I'm curious to see which combination of wires are hooked up to the newer 2 prong lights.
Thanks again, I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Electrical Question for updated 91 front end

only the insides should be on for highs, on the ne front in, theres 2 wires for every one wire, just match all the colors, and make sure you have the grounds connected at the lights to the radiator support, hope this helps

Re: Electrical Question for updated 91 front end

Nukes-- looked at the wiring on my truck today and it appears the wiring harness out of the 91 was used. All connections look factory and there are only two wires going to each plug. Also, all four of my lights work with the high beams on. Talked to a buddy that works at a GM dealer, and he said that in 91, only the inside lights should burn with brights on. Looks like I have some investigating to do on mine. Sorry for the wrong info! Wish I could help more. Good luck!!

You can get schematics like that by registering with autozone.com to access their DIY section. I believe autozone's parent company also owns AutoData so the newer schematics are pretty good.
