4x4 burb to 2wd burb
I have a 1970 burb 3/4 ton 4x4 that I don't need to pull a trailer anymore. Anyone ever turned a 4x to a 2wd. I am what I consider to be a pretty decent with metal, so cutting and welding is no prob.
I would rather put burb body onto a 2wd truck frame, or put 2wd suspension onto my 4wd frame. Has anyone aver done this and what did they run into. Thanks. |

I know the burb will not fit the truck frame.
Although I haven't done it I think you can put the 2wd front suspension under the 4x4 frame. I would just keep the leafs out back.

yeah....just swap suspension components. keep it a 3/4 ton. as for changing to 2wd because you don't tow. i prefer 2wd for everything, especially towing......better fuel mileage, less weight and reciprocating parts, lower maintenance, easier to change oil, better ride, yadda yadda. 4 wheel drive actually lowers your tow rating.

I was recently told by a guy who plays with these trucks for a living (boarmember Livrat), that all the 2wd Suburbans have 3/4 ton lower A-Arms (bigger ball joints).

to each his own.....there are arguments each way.
a limited slip rear.....that is the true cat's meow.....the beauty of 2wd while getting better grip when you need it.....i suggest you look into that! |

By the way superkingd, if you do this you will end up with a front end that is lower than a stock 2wd. This is because the 4x4 frame rails "kick up" higher than the 2wd (1.5" I think). If you are wanting to lower it then this will start you off ahead of the game.

Hey ive got this for sale if it helps
72 1/2 ton 2wd suburban complete rolling chassis. has original 115k on it -including: frame, all suspension and steering, complete brake system, driveshaft, rear end assembly, complete fuel system also selling complete dash assembly complete less dash pad and radio, auto steering column, blue front seat and second seat. also would like to trade all 4 blue door panels and rear inner 1/4 trim panels for gray or black. all are very nice, frt doors need arm rests. selling it all but i have no idea what its worth. need some prices to post it. any help guys?

take that man up on his offer....you get the nice front and rear coil suspension of the 2wd trucks and disc brakes on the front! easier to swap frames than graft in suspension pieces and deal with the different frame geometry you can put 3/4 ton coil springs on the back for towing duties.

I also have a 3/4 ton 2wd rolling frame, I would trade you straight up for your rolling 4x4 frame....but we don't live next door either...
