67 or 68??

I've got a 72 and was thinking about checking out this truck for parts:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...318464844.html

He claims its a 67, but it has front marker lights. I'm new to these trucks but does it not look like a 68?

If it is a 68 would the fenders work on a 72?

Big rear window? Very likely a '68 but you never know until you check the title.

I don't believe the fenders will work on a '72, but I could be wrong.

If it has marker lights front and back, its a 68. You will need entire front clip to swap, including radiator core support, fenders, hood, grill, etc.

Re: 67 or 68??

Thx guys, this forum is great!!

Lets say I go look at this 68 and find that its in pretty good shape as the add says. My 72 is pretty rough but it does offer a nice 350 GM crate motor with a solid trans and a ps setup. The 68 most likely has drum brakes and manual steering. Can I just knock the spindles out of the 72 and throw them in the 68? Would the ps swap be straightfoward?

Re: 67 or 68??

The seller could only come up with 5 year old pictures? That makes me a bit shy.It could be a`67 with the bed and fenders replaced. It`s restored, afterall. The big window means nothing. They were available in`67,just an option. The bonified way to tell would be in the dash. The lighter isn`t recessed, the knobs are smaller, the ash tray id thin at the face, the heater control face is different, the ignition switch is smaller diameter, the mirror is unique, and if the wing vents are original they will have diferent latches. The same goes for the interior handles on the doors.

Re: 67 or 68??

those fenders would not work as a direct replacement on your 72. The entire front end (hood/fenders/grill/core support) will swap onto your 72 though.
Disk brake conversion isn't quite that easy, I think you need to swap out one of the A arms and tie rod ends or something. While I've only done it once, I swapped out the entire crossmember, from wheel to wheel.
in this part of the country, that is a screaming deal if it looks as nice as in the pics.

Re: 67 or 68??

Thanks for the input on this folks.

I had noticed the pic dates as well, was hoping he just didn't set the date in his camera.

I went and took a look at the truck today. Ever notice how your truck always looks better in a picture, I know mine sure does. That was certainly the case here. That poor old truck just plain looked sad, tired and abused. Lots of bondo, rust and the interior was stripped to boot.

Owner wasn't home and I didn't have a camera so I'm still not sure what year truck it was.

Re: 67 or 68??

Sounds like the pictures "were" 5 years old.

Re: 67 or 68??

Most likely a 68. Big window was an option in 67 but side marker lights were not available.

Re: 67 or 68??

Do you have Chevrolet or GMC? It appears others may know already, but just in case, there may be a slight glitch in the advice above.
If your 72 is a Chevy, they are right that the fenders are not the same as your 72 Chevy fenders. However, if you have a GMC, the 68 fenders are exactly the same as your 72 GMC fenders.

Re: 67 or 68??

Sorry bout that, mine's a chevy. Yeah I passed on this one. Only thing I could use off this truck was the doors and bed and they were both pretty rough.

Re: 67 or 68??

it has markers on the bed too, that would be new fenders and a new bed if it IS a 67
