SBC:Centering crank pulley when spacing to align w/water pump
I am having a time finding a short waterpump that has the correct spacing so I have spaced out my crank pulley by putting 2 lock washers under each bolt between the pulley and balancer. Problem is the crank pulley is not staying concentric with the crank and I am concered with throwing the belt.
Anyone had this issue? |

I think Moroso and others sell crank pulley spacers to shim up that pulley while maintaining proper alignment. I would not use lock washers or flat washers to shim up the pulley. You could also try finding another water pump pulley that aligns better with your crank pulley.

Re: SBC:Centering crank pulley when spacing to align w/water pump
It is actually the waterpump that is wrong, the pulley is factory. I bought a napa waterpump and it is too long by about 1/4". I took it back when I realized this but the next one they gave me was off by a little more than a 1/4"

JEGS carries crankshaft pulley shims part no 50400. Moroso has them under part no. 710-64031.
