Brake Swap Questions

Ok fellas i was thinking about swapping out my drums up front on my 70 GMC to discs. Ok now i've got parts off of a mid to late 70's chevy frame that I could use I think. Can I just swap the spindles and rotors and calipers and such? And as it sit the 70's frame up front is 5 lug and my truck is 6, so could I just swap the rotors to 6 lug and it bolt on to the 5 lug spindles and bolt right up to my truck. Thanks in advance guys......

Re: Brake Swap Questions

Hey Mitch,
They will bolt up after you change the ball joints.. I think you will have to change the tie rod ends and possibly the pitman arm as well *but it has been a few years since I thought about this on my 68*. Then don't forget to change the proportioning valve as well. The one for the drum/drum will not work. Then since you have a 70 rear end, you can get axles for a 71 - 87 12 bolt axles and swap over to 5 lug in the rear as well..

The easiest way I recommend and I am going to do is just go get the front cradle from a 73 - 87 *front suspension disc to disc* and swap the front cradle, that way you get the newer motor mounts which is one of the plus sides..

HTH,
Charlie
