My 1963 Carryall photos. Honest opinions wanted!
Hello all,
I've posted my truck before, but now I want feedback. I'm keeping this Carryall totally stock outside with its major "Patina". It's currently almost totally original with a tiny inline 6 and manual 3-speed, but I've already procured a '95 6-lug 3/4 ton chevy to swap out the motor, rear-end, AC and fuel-injection. I'll also be putting in an NP4500 5-speed to make this more of a comfy daily driver. I have air bags and drop spindles with late model disc brakes ready to go on all at the same time. So.....I also bought these factory '07 20" Silverado wheels on Craigslist the other day and was thinking of installing them. I showed the pic below to friends and was met with immediate distaste by most. I was told it looks stupid to have such a rusty body and shiny wheels.....like I'm a poor guy trying to fix up my truck without any taste. I'm obviously capable of fixing the body to normal shiny like everyone else, but I like that the body shows its age and wears its years proudly. So you tell me. Is it cool to have a bagged modern rusty Carryall, but just plain tacky to have it 'rollin' 20's?? I also thought of trying to take the "bling" level down on the wheels by painting them flat black or tan or even rust colored. Thoughts? |

To me the wheels would look better painted on a truck with patina like yours. Bling may look out of place. But it is your truck and if you like them like that run'em.

I think your plans are great! I like the look of original patina... I dig those wheels too, the way they are. Put 'em on and slam it! Call it done...
As for your buddies, they just don't get it...Tell them if they don't like it, they can stay in their Civics and Corolla and crap...

I like rust and bling. Anybody can have a nice paint job. It takes real time to get the rust look.

I think they'll look good! You may also haft to have the centers bored out. The new rims have a smaller opening than the old stuff. The center is what I'm talking about.

I think you should make a ragtop convertible out of it and ship the roof to me.
Nice burb, I think it will look fine with those rims. ultimately though, yours is the only opinion that matters.

Dont do it. It is tacky. "Lets be like every one else and put caddilac lights in the rear along with the bags". Patina? I never understood that. I always seen it as "I like my ugly, rusty, crusty exterior". Please dont get mad, you asked for honest opinions.

I have never been much on wheels that are flat, with no dish, or lip...
they look like front wheel drive wheels to me. |

Love the patina, I'd keep it like you said.
The wheels, I like your idea of maybe toning down a bit. Personally, when I see a wrap around glass I think old school. Wide whites and maybe some vintage mags would be cool. Like everyone says, in the end it's your truck build it your way. My $.02 |

The rest of the plan is good, I'd just look for some wheels with some depth to them.

My style is for wide whites with that kickass patina, but if you like the shiny rims then rock them. The only person it has to impress is you

Re: My 1963 Carryall photos. Honest opinions wanted!
I'm digging the brushed rims and the patina. I love beautiful, deep paint and chrome 20's but Carryalls look pretty sweet with patina. I say rock it!

Re: My 1963 Carryall photos. Honest opinions wanted!
I hate to go against the group here...but I've seen those wheels on a 60-66 chevy truck and they don't look good at all. I'm a fan of 20" wheels but these wheels don't look right on our trucks. Waaaaayyyyy too much backspacing
BTW, what the heck is a Pantina? |

Re: My 1963 Carryall photos. Honest opinions wanted!
Patina is the natural faded, oxidized paint (sometimes multiple colors) and a bit of rust. I think I expalined it correctly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong or left something out.
