fresh air vents
How do you put new gaskets in the fresh air flaps? kinda looks like you have to take the rivets out and separate.I have no idea where you would get rivets that small.Any advise would be appreciated,

My instructions say: Remove air vent doors from kick panels. With a screwdriver, gently expand pinch seam which retains old rubber seal. Slowly work around door until seal can be slipped out. Clean and paint doors. Slip new seal into edge of door. Gently stretch seal working around rest of door, inserting seal into slot as you go. Pinch seam onto seal only enough to hold seal. Very lightly coat seal with rubber lubricant. Reinstall door in kick panel. Sounds like the rivets don't go through the rubber seal. I think I will put a small amount of weatherstrip adhesive around the slot in the door before I install the seals. If you are going to do that it probably wouldn't hurt to test some of the adhesive on a scrap piece of the seal. LockDoc

Re: fresh air vents
Leon,I think the instructions you have are for 73-87 trucks. The seals for 67-72 are one piece and is sandwiched between the two flap plates.I talked to a couple of vendors and they said you have to drill the rivets out and replace. However none that I talked to had those small rivets and recommended that I try the home depot or a hardware store.I'll see if I can find the rivets and let you knoe. Thanks,Jim

Re: fresh air vents
Use pop rivets. I did both of my trucks. Real easy job.

Re: fresh air vents
i got two sets of the vents im going to rebuild and looked up the rivets online and found them!! but to get the tools to do it like original will cost alot. unless you dont mind the little nub on one side of pop rivet. thats the direction i would go!!! its quick and easy and plus nobody would see them any ways!!

Re: fresh air vents
I did mine when I restored my truck. You have to drill out the old rivets, repaint the 2 metal plates and then put in the new seal between the metal plates and put new rivets in the plates to hold them together.Good luck.

Re: fresh air vents
Drill em out and we used very short aluminum pop rivets, steel pop rivets may dent the metal because they are harder to pinch off.

Re: fresh air vents
When I did mine I used the small rivets that are used on the vent window frame rubber, along with the small tool that is sold by the vendors to be used on the vent window rivets.
