This area has gotten to be quite chatty lately.

It is so awesome to see this area growing everyday. The amount of family projects and neat builds is great.

What do you guys want to see from the site? Is there anything we can do to help ya'll out in this area?

First let me introduce your mod team. David, aka, truckdude239 has been around this area for a while. Bill ,aka, 63 & 64 Bowties, has stepped up to give him a hand over here. (Not that ya'll need it )

Anyways if you guys and gals have any comments, suggestions, questions etc. Please post them here (we usually do this in the feedback area... since this is strictly about this forum, I figured here would be better) or PM myself or Bill or David.

WELL!!! It might be nice to have suspension section for AD and TF years. I know a lot of it is broken down in the build threads. Or how about something for the interior do it yourselfers,

Re: This area has gotten to be quite chatty lately.

This site has been great to me. The community is kick ass. So I would like to give back.

I have an original service manual for 48-54 GMC trucks. I would like to scan the entire volume and provided it as a PDF.

This would be a pretty big file (100MB+). Is there a way we could provide this to the users of this forum?

Thanks,

Pete

The Service Manual and much else has already been online for a long time thanks to Keith Hardy at:

http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/

Why duplicate what he has already done?

Nice! Thanks for the link! I wasn't sure about the legalities on reproducing it. I figured it was out of print, but it makes sense that somebody would re-print it.

Well, at least we don't need to worry about lawyers chasing us if somebody already did it.

I do have another suggestion, actually somebody already suggested it. Why not build a tech section specifically for AD trucks. A definitive guide on how-to's and all the cool tweaks and customizations people have done on their rigs. Everything from home made tools to home made parts.

Copyrights on printed material are for 99 years from date of publication. Even if the author and all his family is dead, publisher is out of business and book out of print it still cannot be reproduced without the authors permission. Same applies to photographs taken by a studio or with photographers stamp on the back. I got my education when I found someone trying to reuse my building plans in another State. Most of the current reproduction publishers are pretty watchful for illegal copies that will cut into their livlihood too. I have always assumed that the old car manual project got some kind of agreement on his stuff before going public.

I've been here for a while now. I used to frequent some other sites but this one has been the most help with the least amount of drama.
I really don't now what to do to improve it but I'm sure others will have some great ideas.

I'm not sure on the legalities of hosting a service manual. But there are several places that will host files if you check on google. I'll have to check into it because an online service manual database would be cool.

You would need to get a license from GM just like all the other folks reproducing them. Scan it and post it and I suspect you would be getting a call from a GM or government attorney.

Again, not sure about the legalities, but I scanned a couple pages of my 60-66 wiring diagram and posted it in that section. I scanned it, made it into a jpeg, then posted it on Photobucket.

Re: This area has gotten to be quite chatty lately.

I don't think it is possible for this site to give back any more than it already does!! I have never been involved with such a great site full of people who are willing to help other people and answer any question easy or hard... All the more reason to become a site supporter in my eyes! Thanks to all involved!

Re: This area has gotten to be quite chatty lately.

I think that we as a site should expand our horizons and include all of the earlier Chevy and GMC trucks also, 1947 first and older. I would think that there are so many of those guys that might find this place and leave because there isn't a section for them. I think that we might be missing out on a lot of awesome builds and ideas from those guys as well. I think it's a shame that we stop at the AD body style. What about cab overs also? There are so many things that we are missing out on. Why not support all Chevy and GMC trucks?

Thanks
Nick

I can't agree more. I came here while I was searching for a '65-66 or a '67-68. What I ended up finding was a great deal on a '46 1/2 ton shortbed that already had a 350/350, full independent suspension and 4 wheel discs. I mention all that because it goes to show I have a lot in common with the '47-'72 era trucks.

I much prefer this site to your competition cause they don't allow photos in their threads. PLEASE consider adding earlier truck content. My truck is being rewired right now and I want to post a thread about it here.

I don't think anyone would mind if you did a thread on your truck. We all love pics and new ideas are always welcome.

Re: This area has gotten to be quite chatty lately.

i also would like to thank the team for this site. i wouldn't change too much.
2 things though

1st is there any chance the truck of the month can have more older trucks. it's been quite rare to see anything from the 50's in there...

B.) file limit sizes... i think you have fixed this of late and most uploads are large enough, but could we use larger files in both file size and megabits. i know this can kill a server but if it's possible it would be nice.

3rd.) possible source of income for this site may be "buy your build book". essentially take you build page and print it out comments and all to a folder. charge per page and offer laminate picts... I know i would consider this purchase. i could see spending 100 bucks on a notebook that i could take to car shows...

over all I'm very proud to be on this site and it has helped me a bunch

I am pretty sure Keith Hardy has all the necessary permissions to digitally reproduce all those brochures, manuals, etc he has on his site. He has been doing so for years. I would be very surprised if it's without Chevy's permission seeing as the site is often referenced at the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America's website. I've never checked any of the other manufacturer's "official" vintage vehicle websites but would suspect Ford, Dodge etc whose work is also available at the oldcarmanualproject are also perfectly OK with it. I do remember though when Chevy went a little off their rocker and decided to play hardball with businesses and sites that used Chevy (which is a registered trademark) in their title without their permission. Just hope we don't stir something up accidentally.

I think that's a great idea too along with maybe some kind of list of "interchange" parts often needed for some of these upgrades so people know what to go hunting for at boneyards.

PS Maybe the Admin here could even persuade Keith Hardy to link to this site also just like he does to Stovebolt, Chevytalk and VCCA's website.
