You could buy light duty GM trucks with Cummins engines in them in the 80's. You could order your new truck from the dealer with a Cummins option. The truck would be built and then shipped to a Cummins facility for the installation. It then would be shipped to your dealer for delivery.GM warranted the truck and Cummins the engine.

if im rembering right didint ford own cummins and sold it? or was it gm?

ford did own a small % of cummins.but they had a contract with dodge to put them in there trucks thats why ford never had cummins in there trucks
