Re: who has a 454 in there swb?

mine came out of an 80's ElCamino from the wreck yard. the engine and tranny were gone, but the driveshaft was laying in the back. all I had to do was replace the u-joint to mate up to the 9" rear. Since I have a 9" this info may not be helpful

take measurements and go to the local boneyard and measure away. then take it to your local parts chain to size up some bastard ujoints. works well for me

Re: who has a 454 in there swb?

If you have a truck TH400, it probably has a bolt on yolk. A slip yolk from a car TH400 will not work. You will need to either change the tail shaft of the trans, or get a special slip yolk that has a counterbore to work with the truck TH400.

How much power is your 454 going to put out? For piece of mind, I would get a heavy duty custom driveshaft built. Especially if you have any plans of putting sticky tires on it and going to the track. I got a Denny's Nitrous Ready for mine.

I would just have one made. If you have a shop locally, they can lengthen yours, put in new u-joints, and balance it pretty reasonably.

The factory one from a v8 even I6 setup fits. Only problem the yoke on a TH400 is going to be different unless you find one someone swaped in a TH400 or an M22. Custom driveshaft would be a great idea since it would be ballanced properly.

Re: who has a 454 in there swb?

i took my driveshaft in today, the guy told me it was to thin to extend. he told me he was going to use one of his cores. so my brother in law measured the truck for me and he said he would make me one the exact size. but it wont be ready until tuesday,

Re: who has a 454 in there swb?

as it turns out the driveshaft guy calls me back with the total and it comes out to 190. he said my yoke was no good and me joints were the same, so he put on a new yoke, joints cut and balance. hopefully it turns out good. he also said i should take a look at the bushing ont my trans were the yolk goes
