Has anyone made a conversion from the 1967 hand brake to the more popular foot style parking brake? I bought the foot brake assembly and have not tried to retro fit it as of yet but I would think that I would HAVE to also use the cables for whatever year model these came in?!

And next is will it bolt right in for a 1967 cab? Or would some kind of modification be needed to make it all fit? Just a list of many questions rolling around up there that just sometimes keeps me up at night.

Not made the swap but i have a tip for ya,ll. When you release the foot brake put your foot on it so it dont come up hard and fast. It will last alot longer than if you just let it pop up. I,ve broke 2 pedels off in the past 30+ yrs.

Personally I prefer the hand brake.

I do know that the cable for the hand brake goes through the firewall in a different place as compared to the foot brake, and that portion of the E brake cable is pretty expensive when you find it. Not a lot of shops carry it, and I haven't found one yet that sells one for a 67/68. Or you can just get a used one I guess.

The hand brake/foot brake cabs are different. The foot brake cabs have holes drilled and an area embossed in the firewall to support the bracket. I'm sure you could put a foot brake in a 67-67 cab though.

I have done this swap with my 67 panel, or at least I have prepped my panel for it. I did test fit the parking brake assembly and it does fit. You can read all about it if you go to my website, then click on the "67 Panel Project" button in the red navigation bar. I have done that swap and many others that are popular to these trucks. WES

There is a FAQ somewhere on how to do it an easy way, without much modification. I'll have to find it.

Well I bought the brake cables from LMC Truck for my year model. But after doing so now I do not think they will fit properly. There is a cable coming out of the cab from the hand brake down thru the frame but it does not have the cable connecting the two drums together.

So the question is can I simply 'hook up' this cable to the foot brake pedal and then get the correct cable that is missing to tie it all together?
