Re: speedo stuck

Wouldn't hurt to lube the cable but the cable just turns a magnet that produces a magnetic field that move the needle. Eddie currents.

More than likely you have a bad speedometer. Maybe taking it out, checking the connections, making sure the needle is not loose, etc. may help, but I would start looking for another one.

I agree... Also think of it this way, it's probably about to fly south on you altogether. So learn something in the process. Get in there and break something and learn what's happening and how it works. You might scare yourself and actually fix it! And, if you screw it up, throw it in da guttah and go buy anuddah!

I agree. I really don't think it's the cable. Your needle is probably hanging up on the dial face. You need to disassemble the speedo and realign the needle. If that doesn't fix it, it's new speedo time.

Re: speedo stuck

Should all be the same. I think I took the one for my 69 out of a 72 GMC.

You'll probably see if there's any differences when you take them out and compare.

Re: speedo stuck

Did you pack the cable with grease? I over lubed a cable once and the grease got into the speedo head and acted the same way. Yes the 1968 unit will work.

According to my catalogs they all list the same replacement speedo for years 1967-72 and they're about $75.00.
