67 C10 power assisted steering box

Does anyone know where I can get one of these? My understanding is that in 67 & some of 68, the ram assisted steering was used instead of the integral type of power steering. I have a leak & the cylinder is scored pretty badly.

Re: 67 C10 power assisted steering box

Apparently they never really worked very well, and started leaking early in their lives. I installed a conventional power steering unit on my '67 and it works fine. I don't know of anyone that supplies parts for this unit because not many people have or keep them, but you might check the vendor list.

Unless you are just bent on using the original unit I'd suggest swapping over to the later box and getting rid of that setup.
The only issue outside of changing hoses from the steering unit to the pump is that you may have a slight clearance problem to deal with between the power steering box and the frame when you bolt the box up.

Does the later model box need a new pitman arm?

Is it the '76 and later boxes that were proportional?

Re: 67 C10 power assisted steering box

By later, do you mean the 68-72 steering box?

Yeah, does the pitman arm of the power ram setup from the '67 fit the '68-'72 boxes?
