Driveshaft question
I am swapping the rear axle on my '67 from the Eaton to a Dana 60. The 60 requires a shorter driveshaft. The one in the truck right now is 2" diameter and I have a back section, the shorter one, but it is 2.5" diameter.
Will there be any issues with having a driveshaft that is 2" front and 2.5" back? |

some gm shafts are smaller on the ends than they are in the middle, sometimes when we shorten those we have to cut into the larger diameter part of the tube so we use a weld yoke designed for that diameter tube. so that answers if its ok to have a driveshaft tube that varies in diameter from one end to the other.
but if youre asking if you SHOULD weld 2 driveshafts together in the middle somewhere HELL NO! its not very expensive to have a driveshaft shop shorten and ballance a driveshaft with the propper ends to accept the appropriate u-joints.

No problem on the different shaft sizes, many were that way from the factory with a fatter rear half. Our 1970 is that way.
