motor mounts????

so heres the thing i have a 72 4x4 and i currently have a 350 in it and i'm going to be putting a 454 in the truck soon so to my understanding in 72 they used the clamshell type mount so i guess if thats the case is there anywhere i can get the proper frame mount to except those mounts or could i be fine with running the 350 type motor mounts?? this is the last pieces i need to finish this project any help would be great thanks!!!

Re: motor mounts????

The clamshell mounts only apply on the 2wd trucks. On the 4wd you will use the stock crossmember. Unless you modify the stock one, or use an aftermarket one with more clearance, you will need the small passenger car oil pan. What trans are you going to use? I put a bb in my blazer, and found that the easiest way to do it , is to go to a longer transmission. In my case I swapped in a th400 and then moved the engine crossmember forward so I wouldn't have to bash the firewall. I'll post a couple of pics so you can see what I did.

Re: motor mounts????

when i first got the truck it had a blowout sm465 in it so i swapped it out with a th400 married unit with a 205 tcase, so looks like a have to do some firewall mods then maybe!

Here are a few pics. I modified my crossmember so I could run the large truck pan. I used poly engine mounts.

Re: motor mounts????

I haven't figured out how to get a build thread going yet, but if you search for "new member from the black hills" I have a lot more pics and some details of what I did to mine that may be of some help to you. I can't wait to get mine going again!
