To make a long box short

Is it possible to shorten the box on a '63C10? I can't find any threads on how to do it? Thanks!

Re: To make a long box short

Trucks TV ran a segment in 2007 that show exactly how to do this, both to the frame and the fleetside bed. You can watch it on Amazon.com for $1.99, and save it to your hard drive. Following is the link. It's episode 10 dated 5/27/2007.

Amazon.com: Trucks!: Season 2007, Episode 1... Amazon.com: Trucks!: Season 2007, Episode 1...

Re: To make a long box short

I think there are threads here on it. I've never searched for them but pretty sure I've read them in the past. Not that hard with careful measurements and a clean level area to setup the mod. You need to weld OR I suspect you could do all the measuring, cutting, setup and call in a mobile welder. Post pictures all along the way if you do this.

Excellent choice. Longs are disgustingly gross.

WRONGGGGG! Just depends on what you are after. I love my long bed. But it's a C20 and a lot of people don't like them, either. To each his own.

I wish you luck with this if you shorten. It's beyond my skill set and patience. Too many other things needed doing just to get it driveable.

Re: To make a long box short

Long bed = work truck
Short bed = wanna be work truck.
I have both but will take a long bed over a short bed any day. It's not about the looks, it has be useful to stay at my house.

Re: To make a long box short

I'm doing this now because short beds are what I like.

Drug my long bed tralor home. Took it apart and mounted a bedside on an aluminum table. Put a sandbag on the wheel well to clamp it.

Re: To make a long box short

I'm mobile so it's hard to post but everything is self explanatory. I measured from the edge and cut 12" from the front and 8" from the back. Text me at 806-282-6032 if you need help! Oh, I used tape and tried to cut, the tape peeled because of the heat from the cutoff wheel. So I measured, marked with a fine tip marker, layer my tape, then dusted with grey primer and cut on the primer side. It was really easy to see with proper light and I made a very nice cut. Get some of the sheet metal clamps from harbor freight, life savers!

Re: To make a long box short

This is what I used, any cheap light colored paint would work. Probably better ways but this is what I did.

Re: To make a long box short

Cut on the inside, that part will be removed and try to keep as clean of an outside edge as possible.

Re: To make a long box short

Nice easy bright line to follow. Once again probably better ways, but the tape peeled from the heat and I didn't have any good markers to make lines I could see along the Sparks of the cutoff wheel, this worked great however.

Re: To make a long box short

Remember to cut on the inside part that's being tossed.

Re: To make a long box short

Once you cut through the front the back needs to be marked and cut as well.
