Should I or Shouldn't I?
Hey there guys. and I have a chance to get a 1992 Camaro RS 3.1 V6 with 142,000mi. on it for under $2,000. So I am wondering, should I get this Camaro or not?
Thanks Benjamin.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
I love those Camaros, but I'd stay away from a V6 model. Part of the reason of having one is to go fast.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
I gotta tell ya. I am a camaro guy. That car will be an absolute dog. You are going to need to have your foot in it all the time just to get it to move out of its own way. I am sure the truck is not ideal with today's gas prices but still.
For 2k I would find a nice used Camry or Accord for a daily. Or use that cash towards putting gas in your truck . Either way I wouldn't sell the truck. Clean trucks are getting harder and harder to find nowadays. |

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
Save some cash and put a 5.3 in your truck. It'll get beter mileage than the Camaro and be cooler to boot. I would never sell my truck for a Camaro. Keep the truck.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
I think my problem with mileage is my 3spd. and 4:11's. Plus a Rochester Quadrajet that's in bad, bad, bad need of a rebuild, but I can't find the numbers for the kit.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
i had the same car except with silver bodykit, and i got 1500 for it 5 years ago, the v-6 isnt impressive on gas either, be patient and shop around u may can find a decent one with 350 or 305 for same price, the reason i say that is i also had a 89 firebird with a 305 and it got better fuel mileage then the v-6 camaro

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
The only 91' or 92' RS camaro you want is a (B4C) police package camaro
it has everything the Z28 had, 350TPI 4-Wheel Disc brakes 16in wheels etc. but looked like a plain RS, not easy to come by! |

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
Even the 350tpi cars were turds, thats why so many people are doing LT1 or LS1 swaps. If your looking for a third gen find an 89 TTA or a 91-92 Firehawk.I know where one of each is for sale if you can swing $16k for a firehawk or $20K for the TTA

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
I had a 89 Iroc, and a 92 RS Z03. I sold both of them for my truck. I really like the looks of those Camaro's, but after driving one for a while I changed my mind. You are literally sitting on the ground. Like stated above I wouldn't spend that for a V6. The car looks awesome as far as body and paint go, but I know the parts for these cars are pretty expensive, and not that easy to come by.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
The carb number is on the drivers side. It runs vertical off to the side of the secondary. You can see the one in the picture below.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
well, I`ve owned 2 `91 Firebirds with the 3.1l V6 in them...
I think they were pretty good on gas mileage (sorry - but it really was like this). they took about 10 litres on 100 kms (sry i don`t know how much mpg ...) And because of the short first gear of the TH 700 they actually weren`t slow or felt heavy or so... I ran the cars on the autobahn with about 190 kms per hour ... with NO problems....!! BUT - I thought you want the camaro as a second car or daily driver or whatever - I din`t knew you wanna sell your truck..... Don`t do that - as others already said - it might get harder to find a real good C10 .... and a truck makes a lot more sense IMO and rides more comfortable..... AND I wouldn`t buy any of those cars made in Japan or China - I don`t know, why lots of Americans like those ricers`??????? SUPPORT your own Car and truck manufacturers - they actually have 4 bangers too - if you have to buy one because of gas mileage ...... !!!! - just my two cents - stay cool !!

Unless you guys know some secret I can use to get about 20mpg out of my 3/4 ton, which is my only vehicle and therefore is my DD, I'm prolly gonna sell it. I just cant afford the $1,300-$1,500 A YEAR for gas.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
My truck supposedly gets 10-12mpg with my dad driving. My dad said I have a miss and a hesitation under acceleration. I normally drive 50-55mph on my speedo, so I'm prolly doin about 42-48mph. It's been inaccurate since the day I bought it. But even at that speed, I'm prolly pushing 2-2.5K rpms.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?
Well guys, I test drove the car today and it's pretty strong for a 16 y.o. 3.1 V6. It did 70mph just fine, and that should be all the faster that I need to go. Here's some more pics of it.
And here's the dent that I should be able to fix fairly easily. Thanks Benjamin.
