Will a big block/ Turbo 400 fit in a small hump cab?
I'm about to attempt to install a 1972 402 with the turbo 400 tranny from an original BB truck into a 71 shortbed that originally had a small block and a turbo 350.
So my question is since the big block truck had a high hump cover, if I use the 402 two piece motor mounts and all the brackets and such from the big block truck, will I have clearance or transmission shift linkage issues against the low hump in the recipient truck? Looks like there's going to be enough room, but I thought I should ask, as I'm sure I'm not the first to try this... thanks in advance! |

Re: Will a big block/ Turbo 400 fit in a small hump cab?
I have a TH400 in my SWB low-hump cab. High Humps are used by 4WD trucks. As for the BB engine, the hump doesn't have anything to do with the engine. There are those who have mentioned where the motor mounts are situated, as in forward or aft. I have no experience with that, but I can see if the engine isn't placed correctly, that where the transmission ends up will be critical.

trucks with a high hump from the factory...
big block/auto any 4 speed any 4X4 All others had low hump. With good cab mounts, the small hump will work with the bbc/auto, but it'll be closer than what the guys at GM wanted. |

Thanks for the answers! I'll take good notes and will use the exact same holes for the engine towers and brackets. I'll post pics soon as I get the engine in.
