Arrow State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I am gonna start this thread because of the insurance thread going ,

let's here from ALL people that have their truck registered under your states YOM (YEAR OF MANUFACTURE ) law , most states now have these in affect but I am sure they will differ from state to state ,

I will start with the way Virginia's law work's ,

PLEASE IF YOU ARE FROM VIRGINIA AND SUDDENLY LEAP OUT OF YOUR CHAIR TO TELL ME HOW WRONG I AM PLEASE GO TO THE VA STATE POLICE OR DMV WEBSITE AND READ IT FIRST IT IS ON BOTH SITES

this is as some one said about the insurance WIDELY MISSUNDERSTOOD

#1 you have two choice of plates , either a state issued set of antique plates or you can use an original VA set of plates that match the year on the title of your vehicle ,
#2 you must sign and turn in a sheet that reads you are responsible for keeping the vehicle in good condition and safe to meet the year as it will be exempt from any type of state inspection , in other words you don't have to get an inspection sticker but you have to keep the vehicle in a shape that it pass inspection ,
#3 you are limited to drive the vehicle 250 mile one way from where you live and you cant haul anything with it (TRUCK) you cant ride it to work ,YOU CAN PLEASURE DRIVE IT , DRIVE TO CAR SHOW AND CRUZ INS

you would be surprised at the people with far fetched ideas about this !
I have heard it all , not enough words here to tell you how mixed up people get over this ,,,,,,,

alright lets hear it !

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

in new hampshire all we have is antique and street rod which will cover anything older than 1948 ..the laws for Street rods are very loose but everything else has to be stock which means no lowered trucks or side exhaust..stock stock stock thats it and we have a yearly inspection which will run you about $45 for them to check your lights horn and breaks

if your pre 48 you can get about anything through ins..but anything antiquie they can really bust your nut if they want...secret it to be older ( you truck) than the kid inspecting your truck then you can tell him things like they didn't have seat belts in 1970..shhhhhhhhhhh or that is stock ride height.......

on a side note we don't have truck plates here only passenger...which may not sound like a big deal but when I take my F350 diesal to NYC I run down the merit parkway which is posted no trucks so when I look around I'm the biggest thing around since most all other states have a truck or commercial plate for P/U's and SUV's kinda makes me king of the road!!

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

Texas is very similar. Your not supposed to drive it around like a daily driver.
car shows, parades, back and forth to get repaired. Texas doesnt have the pleasure drive clause

I have them on the 70

My model a has the original plates on it, costs me the same as "antique" plates, but its well worth it in my opinion, and texas allows anything less than 5k miles per year, which is super easy, but you can up to to unlimited for a different insurance rate

First thing I did when I bought the truck, picked up some YOM truck plates on Ebay. No problem registering the truck with them.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I have a white and green WA truck plate with a 72 sticker on my 72 C20.

Most of my fun cars 30 years and older are registered in WA with a YOM plate.
It's a one time fee of about 45.-- dollars and good for the life of the vehicle.
They don't want you to use your vehicle as an everyday driver or to haul stuff
around, but it can be used for occational pleasure driving. Nobody ever gave me
a problem about that, even driving in CA with my WA YOM plate.

Just don't use your classic truck to haul your junk around.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I have the blue/white 1964 Arizona plate on my 65C10. When I went to the DMV they kinda didn't seem to know you could use the 64 plate for a 65.They finally figured it out. Now I am trying to find a nice old vintage frame from a Chevrolet dealership in Arizona. Any ideas?

I have them in ND $15.00 for the life of the vehicle. It can not be used for a farm truck or a business no limit on the milage though.

In California we can use the old plates - my '67 has the original black plates on it.

In Ohio there is no restrictions if you have the plate year match the truck year. (ie: 1970 year plates for a 1970 truck) If its "antique license plates" then I believe there are driving restrictions.

In AZ, you can run a vintage plate if your vehicle is more than 25 years old (qualifying it for a historical plate), if you have a plate issued in the state that has been cleared by MVD. You can get the forms at the following link:

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

As far as I know, Mississippi will only allow Antique or Street Rod plates. I have bought some original 1971 Pike County Mississippi (where I live) tags and 1971 sample tags (00-0000) that I tend to put on my trucks at shows. I have forgotten to swap the plates back out after the show and drove home. Once I didn't notice for three months. Good for me that LEOs were cool and didn't "warn" me.

like I said I can only speak for VA , but this said above is the biggest missunderstood part of the VA law , you are saying that a difference is made between
#1 ANTIQUE plates
and
#2 OLD ORIGINAL PLATES

In VA it is just ANTIQUE plates PERIOD you register the vehicle the same it's just the they give you a choice of using DMV supllied plate's or old original plates that match your vehicles year NO DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY ITS REGISTERED OR THE WAY IT CAN BE USED in other words my original 1967 plates ARE ANTIQUE PLATES

From what I have read in the state of FLA. the vehicle has to be 30yrs or older, not used for commercial purposes, but you still have to renew once a year.We also have antique exempt plates that do not have to be renewed but have a lot more restrictions.I run the standard antique plates on mine and they are the same as the regular state tag, just lite blue and say antique on them.

When I just registered mine, they asked if I wanted a vanity plate an antique plate, or a regular one.

I asked about a custom design/vanity, would have been another $90 total.

That off the table, I asked what the difference was, she said nothing, just that it's blue and I'd get to leave my other tag in the system for later use.

I went with the antique plate because I think the FL tags are ugly and somewhat phallic (picture of FL with oranges... don't think too hard)

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I'll be running the Red 68'-69' Florida Plate on my truck. The plate is color appropriate to my paint scheme (Black and Red) and it worked out that my front clip is a 68' and the truck is registered as a 69'.
