Project 1970 Step side C10
I picked up this truck a few weeks ago in pieces. I am getting a good start on in now. Motor is ready to run, body work is getting there. Any comments are appreciated. This is my second truck that I have restored, so I am not an experience builder yet.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
I had help removing the box, but everything else can be done by myself and a cherry picker.
I would like to replace the rear springs due to the way someone just heated them up to lower the truck. The truck only has a little cancer on the cab just inside the doors, I don't think there is enough to put new floor pans in it though, I'll just fab up some patch pannels I think. Well I got the motor running tonight finaly!!! Runs real good. It took a while to figure out the wiring harness though. I still have no idea what some of the wires are for. If someone has a link I could go to, and find a wiring diagram that I could print off, that would be great. My chilton book doesn't help for a 1970 that much. |

aford78, how many pounds is your cherry picker rated for? I need to go shopping for one soon when I need to take my engine out and get it on a stand.

I think most cherry pickers are rated for 2 tons.
Thank you for the wiring diagram link, it will help out. |

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
I got a little more of the body work done tonight. I started putting antifreeze in the radiator when I noticed a leak. So I had to drain the system and re-solider the lower hose port. All good now.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
Implement paint for farm tractors on the frame, and rustoleum on the firewall. I think that I am going to pull the motor back out and block off the heater hole in the fire wall and do a little more clean up work on it. I just don't know if all that extra work is worth it?

Vintage Air makes a heater/defrost only set up.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
Summit also has a heater/defrost unit.. the Mojave. Haven't used it, but am probably going with it unless I can find something else. I like the smooth look, too

Hmmmm ( thought inside my head) 27* and the sun is out this morning...guess I'll roll the truck out of the garage and take that to work...it's going to be up in the low 60's this afternoon only a few more weeks and the dam snow will be on the ground but get it while I can

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
That mojave unit is pretty slick, and it's only $160 and 40 for the extra plenum. All I have to do is mount it under the dash and run 2 lines from the engine to it. Very clean look while having heat and defrost!!!

I'm sure someone on here has used one or knows someone who has who might be of some help. flamingbig10 (he's a boardmember) has installed one, don't know if he has it hooked up yet, you might ask him.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10
Ok, today I kinda jumped around on a few things on the truck. I started with the boring body work for a while. Got the passenger side ready for paint and did a little work on the upper cab corners. They look silly because the guy that had it before me tried to body fill the seam and didn't finish it. So I am debating on taking the filler out or finishing what he started.
