48 Chevy vs 54 GMC cab question
I have seen a couple of the earlier Chevys with the 54 cab. I have ran across a nice 54 GMC cab and was wondering will my 48 Chevy front clip mount to it without modification? Just wondering??

Re: 48 Chevy vs 54 GMC cab question
not 100% sure, but I think the cabs are the same (minus the windshield).
FYI, LMC and other catalogs list the same doors for 47-55 1st, but different front inner and outer fenders for 54-55. But this may be simply because of the different grills. The rear of the front fenders (the area that attaches to the cab) looks the same. The patch panel that connects the front fenders to the cab is the same part number for 47's - 55's - so I bet you're good to go. Last edited by MrTucker; 10-10-2009 at 07:52 PM. |

Re: 48 Chevy vs 54 GMC cab question
The two big differences are that the 54 Cab obviously has the curved one piece windshield and the 48 cab has a three point mounting system for the cab while the 54 cab has the four point system with the shackles on each side going down the side of the frame.
Real 47/48 Cabs will have the reinforcement panel behind the seat to be used with the center mount while the 49 and later cabs have a single panel with the gas tank back there. |

Yes all the sheetmetal will fit right up to the cowl. I have done it with no mods.
