What do I have?
Bought into this on a whim and now I want to dress up these wheels.
1. What are my options as far as wheels covers/caps? Maybe baby moons? 2. What wheels are these? My thinking is that they are early '70's Chevy truck wheels but I am not sure. I actually showed this picture to a "tire guy" at a tire/wheel shop and this young kid had never saw one before... I think the clips threw him. 15" Thanks guys! |

My 1968 split rims have those clips as well.

Re: What do I have?
how cool! I bet that, that bias ply 700-15 is older than you! Like someone else The clips were to hold on an OE hub cap. I remember my dad fussing at me for not getting those caps on his customers trucks. Oh yea it also has a crap load of weight on it.

Re: What do I have?
They can't be early 70's wheels because they're six lug.I think
67-69 had six.

Soooo, if I am right, the question now is what kind of cap or some other wheel covering can I put on these wheels? Anybody have a picture (or link) of what the OEM hub cap may have looked like? Where are the "old" guys when you need them? |

Re: What do I have?
The 1/2 pound of wheel weights are kind of a dead give away.

Re: What do I have?
when a wheel gets a slight bed, they need a butt load of weight to make them roll kinda smooth-ish.

Re: What do I have?
That happens a lot from the tire mounting machines, but it could also be from that tire. It may not be even close to round.

Re: What do I have?
Here's a cap that will fit....it's a Pontiac, but the wheels had clips for caps like these. I have 4 more, too. Nothing to put 'em on, tho.

Re: What do I have?
The clips ended before the 6-lug 2wd.Even cars had these 6-lug wheels if you go back far enough. The old bias plies could take a good bit of weights. The combination o the welded steel wheel and tire can make or a heavy spot.A good tire jockey will turn the tire on the wheel to take less weights. That tire still has nubs.I bet that tire store guy was scratchin`his head.

Don't know if these would fit or not: http://hubcapmike.com/airstream-trailer-hubcaps.html
There's a link at the link with dimensions.

Re: What do I have?
It's been somewhat of a search, but I found something that fits:
it's a 1947,48,49 Chevy hubcap. I purchased 4 caps for $60 that took alot of elbow grease (and some pounding) to get shiney again. The chrome was thicker back then - which is a good thing.
