modified exhaust question
Ok, I'm currently parting out a 1990 LX mustang with a 5.0. While I was tearing it down I found out that the car has a flowmaster exhaust. I'm curious on what you guys think about modifying the exhaust to work on my 69. It'll be some cutting & welding but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Thoughts? Last edited by CB24; 10-16-2009 at 12:05 PM. |

Re: modified exhaust question
Should be 2.25 inch stuff. Take the Flowmaster mufflers and those nice factory stainless tips and re-use them. No one is going to guess that those angle cut stainless tips originally came off a Mustang.

Re: modified exhaust question
Stock system would be 2.25"; if it's aftermarket, it's prob 2.5".
I know the mufflers would work. The rest of the system could as well w/enough effort. You're the only one who can decide if it's worth the effort though since it's your truck.

Re: modified exhaust question
I'm pretty sure its 2.5". I just figured it would save me some cash on buying a new exhaust. The exhaust currently on the truck is pathetic. Looks like the bends were made using the PO's knee. Its all crimped. Looks bad & flows worse. Anything at this point will be an improvement. Once my garage is set up I'll give it a go & report back with how it turns out.

Re: modified exhaust question
I've purchased Mustang spec'd Flowmasters on more than one GM project because if the project is changed, the Mustang FM's are much easier to re-sell (easier to get more return on your initial investment).

Re: modified exhaust question
That's what I was thinking only I was going to modify it to where the tips exit behind the doors.

Re: modified exhaust question
Honestly, unless you're just weld-happy, this seems like too much work. Maybe save the mufflers and reuse them, but to try and modify the pipes?

Re: modified exhaust question
You wanna put F**D exhaust system on one of our beloved trucks? SACRALIGE!! Honestly if I have to ride in a F**D I change my pants and wash my hands before I get in my truck to prevent infections.
