Do you want to pay for shipping across the country?

What diameter and width? There were a couple of different ones.
If you are hunting for a split rim. I'd check with my tire guy first because a lot of tire stores aren't working on them anymore. The guys at the local tire store I deal with aren't allowed to even roll one in the shop.

I don't want to start a controversy as that went on a few months ago and has already been hashed over and you can find it with a forum search.

A photo and measurements of the wheels you have would help though as there is a good chance that at least one of us still has at least one of the wheels you are looking for in his stuff I need to get rid of pile.

i agree with mr chevy because most shops around here wont even touch a 2 piece split rim. so he brings up a good point.

Re: WTD 8 lug 1950 Orig Wheel

OK I'm new to this and learning. It is needed for a 3/4 ton 1950 GMC 150. Im away from the truck for a few days so I will have to check on the size. I do know it is 16" and all five tires are fairly new looking radials.
As I recall the tire also has a marking on it that says 7.50 on it. So would the sizebe 16 X 7.50? How can I tell if it needs a split rim?
Thanks

Re: WTD 8 lug 1950 Orig Wheel

You don't want a split rim unless the truck originally came with it and regular rims were not a option and you want to be 100% original. When I was in the service there was a reason we caged and chained them when airing them up. In the shop there was a big bulls eye painted on the dented metal siding up about 14'. It was where one hit when someone in the past had gotten in a hurry and aired up the tire outside the cage. They come off so fast you can't even react. I originally had them on my truck so I could fix flats out in the boonies. In 1985 I could not find a shop that would work on them so I just scrapped the wheels. In todays modern world of cell phones and roadside assistance the need to fix your own is not justified. Plus they are a bugger to get off when used and get rusted. I ended up cutting two of the tires off of mine, I could not get the rings to release.

Re: WTD 8 lug 1950 Orig Wheel

Looking at the 4 tires/rims on my truck, how do I identify if it is a split vs regular ring?
Tnx
Carl

A split rim will have a heavy ring on the rim that has a split in it. Back in the day they were the heavy duty rims to have and usually you ran 8 ply bias ply tires on them which have pretty stiff sidewalls. If your truck already has radials on it it probably doesn't have the split rims and you can pick up a later model stock steel rim.

Post a photo of what you have and someone can figure out what it is.

The ring off one is probably on top of a tin roofed tire store in East Waco Texas where it landed when it took the top of the store owners head off and then went through the roof. His son told the workers if anyone ever went up and got it they were fired on the spot. The man got a bit careless and didn't use the cage to air the tire up and it got him when the ring blew off. Most tire stores that do truck tire work have a cage to air the tires up in and most of those cages are bowed out from rings blowing off the wheels when tires were aired up.
