$875 to haul truck 1500 mi from NJ to TX...good price?
I bought the truck in NJ, and got a quote for open carrier hauling to Dallas, TX of $875.
You guys that have had vehicles hauled, is this a decent price? I mean, I'm adding up gas, meals, motel, and lost income from work to make the 3,000 mile roundtrip myself, and it's about the $875. Thanks, SC

Just go find one of those "will work for food" bums you see next to highway onramps . Give him a cheeseburger and a forty of schlitz and he'll deliver it. Problem solved !
Mikep ( former employee of the strohs brewing corporation...makers of schlitz . OK theyr'e not really around any more but I think Pabst picked up the label )

Why don't you contact Gary Terry at The Cheyenne Superman over in Abilene? I got a bed from him and had it shipped to Ohio and it didn't cost me anywhere near what you're paying. His info is:
The Cheyenne Superman Gary Terry 1172 Beltway South Abilene, Tx. Info 1-915-691-1944 Order 1-800-399-7851 He helped me out above and beyond what you'd expect from a vendor. Nice guy. Great person to deal with. Tell him that Dan from Ohio said hey.

I normally charge between .50 -.80 cents per mile depending on the truck/ car . Parts are variable, and depending on if it is a backhaul or not. Sounds reasonable enough for the distance.

I bought a '75 GMC Sprint 454SP.
Last of the big blocks. One of 34 built. Red on black. LS4 454, T400, 3.55 posi, swivel buckets, console, tach/gauges, A/C, PS, PB, PW, PL and 50,000 original miles. Unmolested. All original. I'm definitely going to have it shipped to me. I think $875 is a good - not great - price. Thanks for the input. SC

LOL!!! SCOTI !!!
I just can't pass up these rare cars. I mean how often do you get a chance to own a "1 of 30" vehicle? Given that at least 30 or 40% (at least) have been junked/crushed that makes 'em very rare indeed. For those who aren't familiar with the Sprint, they are GMC's version of the El Camino. In 1970, GMC Division asked the General for their own version of Chevy's successful El Camino line, and thus the first Sprints were introduced in 1971. Just like the El Camino, the Sprint was available in several trim levels. Instead of the "454 SS" for the top of the heap performance versions, the Sprints were "454 SP" with the SP standing for Special Performance. They are basically identical to an El Camino except for some GMC badging. They are much rarer than the El Camino, especially the 454SP versions, of which only 114 were built in '72 and only 30 of which are optioned as the one I have. Only 34 454SP's were built in '75, truly the last of the big blocks as no 454 '75 El Caminos were built ; the 454 option having ended their run of big block Elkys in 1974. I'm on the lookout for a '71, '73 and '74 now. If you know where one is, let me know. SC

...I had a '67 Sprint...
But, back then, Sprint was a Pontiac, as in Tempest LeMans Sprint (66-69) and Firebird Sprint (67-69). These had 6-cylinder engines, with 4-bbl Q-Jets, V-8 suspension, V-8 single exhaust, split manifolds, 215-HP from 230CID with overhead cam, and 10.5-1 compression. Those 225 horse Mustangs hated them. Little Sprint OHC-6 was good for 7000 RPM's. Also, they pioneered the first mass usage of a timing belt.
So, I'm gonna bet the Sprint name became available in '70 because the new F-body hood was too low to allow the tall OHC engine to fit, as well as too expensive for GM to justify production. GMC Sprints are scarce, but a nice alternative.

....thought of something else...
I drove 1 of 3, '68 El Camino SS-396's when I was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Base, in '69-70 in Viet-Nam. It was a 350 horse, TH400, painted USAF blue, with a white top (the very top part, not the sails). On top of the white top was genuine Kyzor big truck A/C unit. Under the hood....a HUGE 24V/400Hz alternator to power the aircraft radio mounted in the interior. It had a rotating beacon mounted on an elevated shaft, installed in the bed. The purpose of this truck was to give the U-2 pilot a "guide" as they took off and landed. If you didn't know, you can't see out of the canopy of a U-2, so you have to use a periscope to see under the nose of the airplane. The El Camino was quick enough to serve the purpose. Now, they use Camaro's, or so I was told.
One of three? The other two were at other bases...one in Arizona and the other in California. Wonder what happened to them?

I used Dependable Auto Shippers. You should be able to find it in the net, if not, drop me a PM and I'll get you their website. They did a great job for me, very reasonable I thought, and they have a site where you can track where the truck is. Don't hold me responsible as an endorsement, but I'm very pleased with them getting my truck from TX to TN. Two days sonner than they originally estimated. TF

hey Superchevy
You are truely a man on mission. I know the feeling. I want one of everything built in 1955 (from Chevy). Not to hard untill you get to the little plastic car. Errr i mean the vette. LOL
BTW - I live out in Wylie on the other side of Plano. And there is an older gent that drives a really sharp GMC sprint. Looks original though. Maybe a repaint. it is white and has like an arrow graphic down the side. the graphic is red and black. Not sure what year or level. but hey it may be a long lost filler you need. I am thinking he must work out of this storage facility. but he could be just storing it there. I have only seen it on the road once. If you want some more info email me. wille@southernbowties.com
