disc brake swap
will the rotors, spindles, ect. off a 86 c-20 work on a 70 c-20? what will i need to do the conversion? has anyone done it before? what was the common auto trans and gear ratio in a 70 c20 with 350 engine?

If you use the balljoints tie rod assys, & center link from the 86 you should be able to bolt the parts on the 70. the steer stops will be different on the 70 lower arms, & will shorten the turning radius(you can grind the stops on the spindles, or modify the stops on the arms).....or just replace the arms. 71-86 or 87 shared the same balljoints ,ect (on the 3/4 ton trucks). The corporate rears in the 20 series trucks generally had a 4.10, or 4.57 gear(my longhorn was 4.10), & had a 350sb/400turbo. Good luck......crazyL

do i need to use the 86 upper arms? would it be easier to swap the complete crossmember? what about the brake hoses?

the upper arms from the 70 will work, just swap the balljoints. Some of the guys are swapping the complete crossmember, & while I havent done it that way, it is my understanding that drilling ,or egging a couple bolt holes will let it bolt right in. As far as lines/ hoses,master ect.....you can swap them off the later truck with minimual mods. my69 longhorn has been swapped to 1/2 ton pcs, & i used a 75 C10 for donor parts . I have the orig crossmember/upper arms, 71 1/2 ton lower arms, & used the spindles,ball joints, outer tie rod ends, rotors, calipers, lines,hoses, prop valve,& master from the 75....also the 12 bolt rear, with all the brake hardware. If you get the complete parts truck, you will be ahead of the game. Good luck.....crazyL

i should have all the pieces being that i have 86 3/4 ton rolling chassis. crazy, you have been very helpful. i think i'm going to fix the 70 up for a tow vehicle and drive it rather than parting it. this leads me to a new question, does anyone have any 88-up 3/4 ton silver steel wheels with rings and caps? dont want to go too fancy,kinda on a buget.

i've been looking at all of the part #s and from what i've found is that from 71-87 the spindles, rotors, lug studs, ball joints, and upper control arms are the same. are the tie rods the same? i know the centerlink is not. what i want to do is have all of the parts that a 71-72 uses.

When I did my swap, I couldnt even get any info from the truck yard on the center link(dealer item only). My thoughts are, if you peel all the parts off the 86? was it......parts truck, you should be fine........crazyL
