got doors back from body-shop

I got my doors back yesterday and they look awsome BUT cost me way to much. He coted me $500 for the pair. When all said and done it cost me $850. He did a real nice job dont get me wrong, sanding them down to the metal and such but he told me he spent 40 hours on them( he thought it would take 15 hours). In my opinion, if you are a professional, you should take in to account that you might run in to problems esspecialy on 30 year doors dont you sall agree?Im just venting. Ho BTW that is not eavan painted for that price just primed.

I would be shocked and he would have some doors.
A quote should be listed as to what will be done and the cost. Doors are an item that can be checked for rust, bondo and damage very easily. I would not sign an estimate that was open ended to run extra for unseen problems.
A professional bodyman knows how to estimate closer than that.
Almost a 60% increase is unreasonable.
I am guessing you had a time and material deal and he ran you up.
My thoughts.

ah...........did he give you a cigarette...........afterwards???

If he is retired, He should know how to estimate that kind of work pretty damn close, unless he never took a look at them before you agreed to do business with him.

One more thing, is that canadian money? How much would be if it is US money?

I hope he at least kissed you . Thats what about $500 US . Kind of pricey to have two doors straightened out. What did he do to them? I guess it doesnt matter now but new doors would have been probably the way to go.

**** i bought a set of straight rust free doors for $220. although had to pay the guy $100 to deliever them. i just need to have the mirror holes filled on one door but otherwise, no speaker cuts, no rust, perfectly straight, i just need them painted.

i got my doors off ebay and ive seen a few other perfectly good used doors with no rust or dents sell on ebay for good prices.

He should have been alot closer in his time estimate on the doors. While time estimates can be off that on such things the amount of time he was off is ridclous. For being that far off he should have notified you that he was running into problems and let you decide what you wanted to do..
