White houndstooth???
My 72 blazer has white vinyl seats with orange checker board pattern cloth inserts.
I can't seem to find a supplier with new seat covers of this kind. I see all other colors but white. Anybody know of a supplier?? I need to recover these things and want to keep the truck looking original. |

Re: White houndstooth???
You have a highlander blazer then. Your only option is to use a company that supplies the correct orange plaid and have them made from a set of reproduction seat covers. Don't remember for sure what that one company was, but there is only one company that I am aware of that carry it. Trevor

Re: White houndstooth???
Highlander?? Never heard of it.
This is just a K5 blazer with the CST option. It's factory orange with a white top and white houndstooth interior. The seat bolsters are white vinyl,,,only the inserts are cloth checker board pattern. I see these seats all the time in green, blue, black etc....from various suppliers. There has to be white sets around somewhere, it was pretty common back then, my 69Z has white houndstooth and it's reproduced everywhere. |

Re: White houndstooth???
My bad, I thought you were talking about the highlander package. It had white seats with a orange or blue, or green plaid pattern. There is no way that your seats are original, but you could have your seats remade by a local upholstery shop, or contact WES, Classic Heartbeat in WA, as he used to know someone who made special houndstooth bucket seats in any colors you wanted. No houndstooth buckets I know were ever put into the truck line, but not 100% on the blazer/jimmy line. They do make reproduction houndstooth bucket seat covers for them, but it's just because people like the look if they had a Cheyenne Super with factory buckets, but even Cheyenne Super bucket seats were always vinyl with the scroll pattern. I just know that the white with orange houndstooth was not an option. Trevor

Re: White houndstooth???
If you are just asking if you can get white houndstooth bucket seat covers, you can, and they are fairly common with most parts suppliers. They don't come with orange houndstooth like on 69 Z28 pace cars, but just black and white houndstooth. I know houndstooth was fairly common on a couple models back then, but on a truck line, it was only available on bench seat Cheyenne Super trucks of 71 & 72. I have a 71' Cheyenne Super w/ buckets and they were only available in the vinyl and scroll pattern. If you want to have white seat covers with orange and black houndstooth, you will have to get them made. Sorry, just trying to help ya out and fully answer your question.

Re: White houndstooth???
They are the original seats. Truck has been in family since new. It's an unrestored 70,000 mile truck and I just decided to go through some things on it to make it 100% again. The cloth portions have worn thin.
Maybe I'm just not describing them correctly. I call them houndstooth because that's what I'm used to calling seats similar to this on the old muscle cars. That's mainly what I restore. Maybe there is another name for them in the truck line?? I'll try to snap a picture of one today and see if I can post it here. Thanks for the help so far, I'm still digging around for parts on this thing. |

Re: White houndstooth???
that is highlander, plaid could be had in gray, orange, blue, or green (avocado). sms auto fabrics has the cloth and you can have covers made with the correct vinyl.

Re: White houndstooth???
Anyone have a picture of white houndstooth with the cloth inserts??
If these come in orange and are available it might be close enough to satisfy. |

Re: White houndstooth???
Thanks. That's close enough. This isn't a concours truck, I just want something comfortable to sit in that at least resembles what the truck is supposed to be.
If I can't find what it has then this will do. |

Re: White houndstooth???
Alright, so I wasn't delusional in thinking it was a highlander seat. I had never seen the orange and black camaro houndstooth on a truck that was factory. As I am positive they never had that option from factory. 72Highlander is correct, as SMS was the company I was thinking of, and it is the only way you can make a seat cover from a highlander truck 100% accurate, as there is no company that makes reproduction premade highlander seats. Got it handled anyway, I went with houndstooth in the original white vinyl and orange cloth colors the truck had to begin with. Just the cloth pattern is different but for this old truck I don't care. Actually looks a little better in my opinion anyway. Chris (aka Yellowblazer1969) is getting me taken care of. Thanks for all the help guys. Last edited by Firebirdjones; 11-03-2009 at 08:43 PM. |

Call his number. He is still around but his wife run's the email, and you won't get a very clear or long response. If you call, I hear he is really informative and helpful. Trevor

Re: White houndstooth???
Try contacting SMS auto fabrics. Youll have to take it to an upholsterer but they will probably have the correct fabric color and vinyl.
